Happy Hump Day!

Happy hump day!  How is everyone's week going?  How are all the autumn brides doing with wedding plans, etc?

I've been doing okay.  I had a rough start to my week, but things are looking up a little.  I think all the political posts on FB are just making me a little cranky.  I saw one today that was like "To my Catholic friends, don't forget that being pro-life doesn't just apply to abortion!  Also, check out this article where Romney admits he won't do anything to stop abortion."  First of all, I would bet you all my money that Romney won't do anything to further the pro-life cause directly; however, he will likely appoint judges who will.  Furthermore, at least he won't further the pro-choice cause, like Obama.  And finally, I don't think any Catholics think pro-life is only in regards to abortion.  However, in political/election terms, it is.  When a candidate is asked whether he's pro-choice or pro-life, he is being asked about abortion...not war, not capitol punishment, not health care.  So yeah...I didn't respond at all to the post, but it just really annoys me.  I need to stop looking at FB!

Anywho...what's everyone up to?

Re: Happy Hump Day!

  • Gahh! Just stay away from facebook and don't take those idiotic comments too personally. Some people just don't know what they're talking about. My Fiance has gotten a little political on FB himself. I read the comments, but just stay out of it.

I had my fitting last night!! (I'll share some photos later when I can get to my camera)
It just needs to be let in slightly at the bust, slightly out at the hip, and a hem. I was so excited to have it on again. It was even prettier than I remembered. I didn't want to take it off! I try it on again October 24th is when they do my bustle. Only 46 days to go :)

  • Christina, that's so exciting!!  I feel sad that I won't ever have a change to wear my dress again.  I had intially wanted to make a baptismal gown out of it, but apparently H's family has one that everyone uses.  Now I'm thinking about having a first communion dress made from it.

  • I try to skim past/ignore the political stuff on FB as much as I can. It generally bugs me, but I see no value in picking fights or getting involved in debates in that setting. :(

Christina, I'm so excited for you! Dress fittings are so fun!

I'm excited and nervous for this morning. I have my first real playgroup with some moms from my parish. I'm excited to meet/get to know more moms. I'm nervous because I'm always awkward in new group situations.

  • Happy Wednesday!  Luckily I don't have too many political friends on FB, so my newsfeed has been pretty quiet.  I usually just ignore those type of posts anyway, since I'm really not into politics, and they just end up annoying me anyway.

Christina - so glad you enjoyed your fitting!  I've been peeking at my dress periodically since getting it from my final fitting.  I'm too nervous to try it on again at home for fear of damaging it, but I did break down and try on my veil last night :)

I read somewhere awhile ago about a couple that put on their wedding-day attire and got a photo taken every year on their anniversary.  I would LOVE to do that, since I can't imagine never wearing my dress again, and i'll never be able to cut it up to make a christening gown or something like that.  I don't know if it would work for us since FI is renting his suit, but we'll see...

Biblio - have fun at your group!  I'm not usually a "joiner" and get nervous trying to make small tallk with people I don't know, so the first few get-togethers of a group like that would be tough for me too.  I'm sure it will go great though, and it'll be nice to get to know some new moms from your parish, that'll be a great group to have.
  • Ah! I feel like the week is flying by- 10 days left! I feel very productive this week, though. I bought all the candy for the candy buffet. I'm most of the way done with the programs, menus, placecards, table numbers, table assignments, and candy buffet signage. And last night I made the seating chart which ended up not being the terror I'd imagined. Today, I get to meet with our coordinator for the reception venue to order the linens, figure out the floor plan, and pay the balance. It'll be awesome to have all the big things paid for. Only a few things left to do and it should be smooth sailing!

i do wish this week would slow down a bit, mostly because my daughter has a shortened week at school and goes to her dad's for the weekend on Thursday instead of Friday. It's something I struggle with because i end up feeling like the disciplinary parent who has to have the strict schedule of school, homework, sports, dinner, bed, while he gets to be mister happy funtime parent. Having only 1 weekend in 3 is tough, but I pray for acceptance and strength to deal with it. After 3 years, though, it doesn't feel any easier. At least she'll be here for the weekend of the wedding! I can't wait to see her looking so adorable and pretty in her dress :) She's looking forward to it almost as much as I am.

I have a confession. Since I haven't had my dress cleaned and preserved for storage yet (2 years later), I totally tried it on again a couple weeks ago. It's still beautiful :)

Biblio, hope your "playdate" went well!

I posted photos of my gown to share with everyone. :)

    Resa,

A first communion gown might be even more special, since your daughter would be old enough to really appreciate it! I'm using parts of my my mom's gown to make a garter, and will probably wrap other bits around my bouquet stem.

Ivy, your wedding is so close!! You must be so excited. :)

  • I had totally planned on doing the baptism gown thing. Then my H got all obsessed and ended up getting the thing cleaned and boxed. Then the baby came and the baptism snuck up on us and we ended up just buying a dress, which worked out fine, too. Maybe a communion dress will be a good choice for it.

The playdate was fun, even if I was super nervous. Like I told H, I'm proud of myself for going, since I struggle to put myself out there like that.

LV -- how exciting to be so close! The time before the wedding is going to fly by -- savor it, even the time without your daughter.  Eventually, she will appreciate the structure you give her, even if it is hard sometimes now. Plus, I'm sure she'll look adorable in her dress and be a special part of your day.

  • I really wanted to do a "day after" photo shoot with H to have more pictures of us in wedding attire, but here we are nearly a year out and we just haven't been able to justify dropping $400 on another photo shoot.

I just sat through probably one of the worst professional development sessions ever.  I don't want to complain too much, but the content was almost entirely irrelevant to the audience (using English and history examples for science teachers -- thanks), one of the presenters seemed to not have a clue what she was talking about, and lots of the examples of so-called "good" writing or "good" assessments were actually pretty bad.  It makes me nervous for the changes in curriculum the state is adopting.

And we leave tomorrow!  Our flight is at 5:54 am, so we're going to have to get to sleep EARLY tonight.  I still have a ton of things left to do around the house tonight AND my petsitter waited until today to let me know there's a tiny, tiny chance she won't be able to come over tomorrow.  Sigh.

  • I hope you all had a better Hump Day than I!

Basically sucked with too much PT than absolutely killed me but the the next PT who so much as touches  my left leg will DIE!  I swear!
  • What sort of physical therapy is it for? I only ever had to deal with PT after foot surgery...and I stopped going because I basically paid a lot of money for someone to wiggle my big toe, which I can do by myself...lol

Leg pain however, is just not fun. Ever.
