Decoration Ideas!

So, we are having a destination wedding in the Dominican Republic next October and when we return we are having a cockail party for those who could not make it to the wedding abroad.  We decided on a cocktail party instead of a reception due to our budget.  However, I have run into a wall trying to decide on how to decorate the hall.  I want to do a beach theme because we are going to be married on the beach.  But, as everone knows, beach themes are super tacky!  how can I make my decorations romantic, suble and beautiful without being tacky and hanging star fish everywhere?!  Help!!!!

Re: Decoration Ideas!

  • I wouldn't really call a beachtheme reception "takcy", a lot of girls pull it off very well. Any theme that is over done will be tacky no matter what.  You could useaqua blue colors in some of your linens.  Try not to be judgemental about it being tacky until you really look at decor. Try googling "beach theme reception"

  • I agree with using an ocean color theme. Also for the napkin holders, centerpieces, gift bags and food choices, make those beach themed. some cute sea shells sprinkled on tables, etc. You can do it!

  • I agree that any theme could be tacky if it is overdone.  If you just do little things here and there it should be beautiful.

  • oooo there is the coolest glass seashell at World Market in the candle section. It would make a great centerpiece with floating candles in it. Its big and the opening is on the side so the candles would float back in it. You could put sand at the bottom. I saw it but I'm having a western wedding so it doesnt match. Also maybe do a "message in a bottle" invitation or favor! Good Luck!
  • I would focus most on table decor. I would personally use baby blue more

    here are some ideas:

  • Thank you so much for the feedback!  I love the floating candle idea!  The wedding package that we chose for our destination is called "sapphire blue collection" so everything at the wedding on the beach will have those accents.  So I def will go with a blue theme and I might incorporate some orange "pops" throughout to accent it.
