Odd Question

I'm watching TV and "I Almost Got Away With It" is about a con-artist that is very much like the guy from "Catch Me If You Can".  He pretended to a preist and all the people that he married were not really married because of it.  What would you do if you found out your preist was a con and you weren't really married?  Just thought this was interesting.

Re: Odd Question

  • I would punch him in the throat!  HAAA However, he would have to answer to the military first since that would be a very BIG deal to them.

  • Honestly, I'd probably go get married at the court house?

    Oh, I'd sue him too.

I forgot about that point.  That's a wild card there.

  • When would I find out I wasn't married? Would be years later or when the Marriage License didn't come back from the County? haha

If it was soon after I would go to the Court house but if everyone else accepted we were married and we (H) was okay with it, then I would probably leave it be. I feel like if we did everything right (on our end) and in front of God, I think my God would know what was up and be okay with it too. lol
  • It wasn't years later but it was months later so they probably had their paperwork by then.

  • I guess I don't really understand how you could find out you weren't married once the marriage certificate came out.  Once it's issued I feel like they can't revoke it.  So if we were legally married but just then not considered married in the eyes of the church, we would probably just do a really small thing with the priest.  Small as in within his office if possible.

I agree with Beach. If legally we were married I would just do a little ceremony with our pastor. Little meaning FI, me, and pastor.

  • Did the county file the marriage license and give me a certified license? Because I think I would be just as mad as them as the guy. Although, that's quite an impressive charade. I would just do something small though. I would consider my wedding date the same and share the story with everyone.

  • hmm... ehh...tough one. Considering we are getting married by a msgr, I don't think that he is a fake. But I'm willing to bet that it would be a valid marriage if he did the sacrament parts.  You don't need a priest to perform the sacrament, adeacon would work, and in extreme situations I'm sure a lay-person would work. After all it isn't the priest performing the sacrament... it is the bride and groom that are the main parts.

Random note - FI actually knows Frank Abagnale Jr's (guy from Catch me if you can)son....and has met him before. It is a small world...
