Ceremony program distribution question

Do you think it's better to have programs placed on each seat at the ceremony (we're getting married outdoors so each guest will have their own chair) or to just have someone handing them out as guests take their seats?  My only concern with the latter is that since the wedding is (hopefully) going to be outdoors, it will be easy for people to just walk across the grass to find a seat instead of walking down the pathway past the person who will be distributing the programs.

Thoughts?

is a table and basket out of the question?  if its windy, will the programs stay on the seats?

Oh, good point about the wind!  Didn't even think about that.  We're doing paddle fan programs so I'd assume that they'd be heavy enough to stay on the seats unless we're in a windstorm.  But maybe that answers my question right there and we should just have someone giving them out.

A basket on a table wouldn't work because of the location, so we'd definitely have to have one or two people physically handing them out.

That WAS a good point about the wind.  LOL  Man, the little things I'd never think of!  That's why the Knot is so helpful.  LOL  You can always call on a friend or two to act as "program-givers" .  I've been to a couple where they had folks at the door or top end of each aisle, handing out programs as the guests came in.

Depending on your theme, I have also heard of putting some stuff on top of the program to hold them in the seats (like some shells or sea glass if it was a beach theme).  Another thought would be to put ribbon on the program (maybe the handle of yours since they are fans) and hang them on the corner of each chair.  I am in the similiar situation and saw the hanging programs at a wedding - liked the idea.

the only complaint i have w/ the hanging favors on each chair is that then every guest would get a program - and there goes additional costs.  when you have the programs handed out or in a basket - its 1 per couple, so you save 50%...if you have any kids coming to the wedding, see if they want to hand them out.  Or have the guys hand them out as they escort the guests to their seats....just a thought

I think that having the programs handed out would work best. I do like the idea of putting one on each seat but there are so many things to worry about it just doesn't seem worth it.
