How far out will your RSVP due date be?

I've been gathering information all week for catering and rental companies to get an idea on pricing and try to get started on a few things. We will have to rent all the tables, chairs, linens, etc. so want to get a head start on that. The cater who I think we'll be going through requires a final number 2 weeks in advance, which is great. One of the rental companies that I spoke with had probably the best prices and they did delivery/pickup without charging out the wazoo. (Which is great for us as we live in a rural area) The only downfall is that no changes can be made to the contract within 30 days to the amount reserved, or we'll just pay full price if it's less. I completelyunderstand their side of things, but that means I would have to have the RSVP 5-6 weeks out to make sure I have enough time to contact those who may have forgot to send it in. This just seems like a pretty long time lapse. I have other options for rentals, but I'm leaning toward not going through them.

So when are you having guests RSVP by? What timeframe is acceptable?

Re: How far out will your RSVP due date be?

  • I am going to have mine at 2 maybe 3 weeks before the wedding, that way I have a week to call people who forgot to RSVP. My baker and Venue need the numbers 4 days prior.

  • I'm setting my RSVP deadline at 3 weeks prior.

  • I think I'll be doing mine at 4 weeks, my caterer/venue needs the final numbers at 2 weeks prior, so I think that would give me enough time to call/e-mail the guests who haven't RSVP'ed on time.

  • Other forums scare the begeezers out of me. Lol. Ok, not that bad, but some ladies on other boards can sure take things out of context and make you feel about an inch tall. I figured I would stick with my nice June ladies and ask here since you all are so nice!

Thanks for the responses! I'm thinking I'll stick with my gut and go with another rental company that only has a 2 week deadline.
  • Our vendors need numbers 2 weeks in advance too. However, our hotel block releases on April 16th and if people don't reserve by then they absolutely won't get a room because that's how Geneva is in the summer time. So our invitations will be going out early, like somewhere in the 9-12 weeks out range so that people can get the hotel information with enough time to spare. So our rsvp will probably be early too. maybe a month out or so. No idea yet. I'm not too concerned. I'll worry more about specific times and dates when we actually order invites which won't be until after the six month mark.

  • I'm having people RSVP 2 maybe 3 months in advance. I know people are going to have to be called because they're late with responding to their invite. I've heard it from soooo many brides. So I'd rather not be frantic because the wedding is SO close when I'm calling about their RSVP. I know it's a ways a way before the wedding to have them respond and that means I'll have to send the invite out like 4 months before the wedding, but I don't care, because I'm hoping that not being frantic a week or two before the wedding about people not responding to the invitations will be worth it. That's just personally me though. I know I probably sound completely out of it.
  • I have my RSVP about 5 weeks in advance. Honestly I just thought the end of the month was an easy tool to help people remember, so I'm doing April 30 and my wedding is June 8

I am having my RSVP's due about 5-6 weeks before the wedding. My venue needs to know a month in advanced!

  • I'm setting mine at 4 weeks before the wedding. that gives me plenty of time to contact any stranglers. Our deadline for venue is 2 weeks before wedding. So it gives me a cushion.
