Reception Venue Doubts!

So I am having a full-blown panic attack at this very moment because I just realized that I do not LOVE my reception venue. I LIKE it, and it fits (most) of the criteria we had, but even after we sent the deposit, I still didn't think it was MY place.

Here was our wish list:

Ocean-side (or very close by)
On a golf course

Not much right? Then add in I wanted a Saturday in June, and not pay $5k in rental fee. Oh and somewhat close to home.

What we got was:
A Saturday in June at a gorgeous, private country club, 45 min from the ocean. It's very pretty and we've attended weddings there before so I know it will be gorgeous.

So here are my issues:
They can have 3 events at once, and I was already warned about noise level from a photographer I interviewed
No water anywhere nearby, except for near the 9th hole, and the wedding coordinator told me we absolutely cannot take photos by it. Reall? Not even for 3 min? I'll take my shoes off!! Moving on...
The inside decor is kind of dated. The lights on the wall, the carpet, the CHAIRS. I absolutely hate the chairs. I don't want to overhaul the room with tons of decorations to make it how I want it.

So I need some advice and reassurance, did I make the wrong choice? I have until July 22 to mail back my contract, up until then I can still back out and get my deposit back.

Does anyone have any other suggestions on places I can look? Boston, north of Boston would be ideal.

Thanks Knotties!!!!

How many guests are you planning on? Also is there a total $ amount or per person amount you want to stay under?

Did you look at White Cliffs Country Club in Plymouth?  It fits both of your location requirements.

I'm not sure what your budget is or where in MA you want to have it, but if you have all of these issues about the venue your looking at now I would say go with your gut and not sign the contract.

Where are you hoping to get married in MA? I'm from Plymouth and there are some amazing country clubs all along the south shore and obviously cape cod. I just went to a wedding at the Ridge Club in Sandwich and it was AMAZING. Alsom Ballymeade in Falmouth was nice!

White Cliffs and Waverly Oaks are in Plymouth - WC is literally on the water, WO is not but grounds are very nice.

Kingston, Duxbury and Marshfield have some nice club houses as well.

If you're looking on the northshore I'd recommend Beverly - I used to live there and it's a beautiful little town :)

Thanks everyone for all your input!

We live just north of Boston, and found a great church here that we want to use, so we are kind of limited to this area.

Bass Rocks in Gloucester was my first choice, but the room layout is awkward. Nahant has beautiful grounds, but dated interior. I love love love Danversport, but it's booked :/ We thought about White Cliffs in Plymouth but it's too far :( We especially didn't want our guests to travel anymore then they already are. We considered Granite Links, but it was way out of our budget.

So as of right now, I think we are going to stick with Andover Country Club. I'm hoping that with the right decorations I can transform the space into something I really love. I'm super bummed about not having pictures on the ocean on our wedding, but we'll at least get to do our engagement photos on the beach!

Thanks again everyone for all your input! You've been super helpful during my crisis! LOL

Don't fret! Andover does a really nice job with weddings. If you really want pictures near the ocean can you build in some time between your church and your reception to stop with the photographer near the water and grab a few quick shots? Haggets pond isn't too far from there and maybe you could do a quick pop by for some water picks? And don't worry about the noise level. They told my friend that too but once we were in the room the DJ that's all we heard. You could hear the other weddings from the outer outer hall but that's all we noticed. Good luck!
"I got married in 1968 and EVERYONE only had 1 photographer, I don't know where all this nonsense came from. Who wants two flashes popping all night anyway? and really as long as they get you dancing, kissing, and throwing the bouquet the rest is just fluff." - My mom

I would absolutely recommend the Plymouth suggestions and also consider Pine Hills Country Club in Plymouth, Hatherly Country Club in Scituate or Cohasset Country Club in Cohasset.

Absolutely reach out for any rental items, furniture, farm tables, etc. we would be more than happy to help - www.NewEnglandCountryRentals.com
