for married girls - name change timeframe

How long before you got everything completed before you legally changed your name?

Our marriage license was waiting in the mailbox when we got home from our HM, so I started that next Monday.  After my new SS (1 week) and driver's license (3 weeks) arrived, I was able to change everything else.  My bank stuff I had to go in but everything else was over the phone or faxing letters with a copy of marriage license.  It's been almost 2 months now...it was probably a week ago that everything was finally updated.

I do still have my townhouse/mortgage stuff to change...not sure if I will though.  I've been renting it the last year and will sell when my tenant gives me his notice.  Not sure it's worth the effort at this point.

LOL  1 year.  Most everything was changed right away with the exception of the new SS card.  Most things I could do by simply showing the marriage license to the business/bank, etc.  Work refused to change my name until the new SS card was presented.  After a few months, DH started giving me tons of crap for not following through.  I ended up taking an afternoon off about 9 months into being married to do the SS change and then had my name changed at work a few weeks later when the card came.

I did mine right away so I wouldn't get confused.  I still have one Credit Card I rarely use that is in my old name.  I never changed my car title or house stuff though after talking to my bank and realtor.  Both would be fine if, when I sold them, just presented my new ID and marriage license as proof of identity.  It was going to cost a lot to re-file those particular documents and it wasn't worth the hassle or cost to me.

Still working on it!  Most of it was done within two months, but little things still keep popping up.
