Photographers and DJs

I am looking at photographers and DJs in San Diego for a May wedding. I've been looking at photographers and so far they seem to be ranging in the 3,000+ that I am finding. Is this normal? Does anyone have someone they loved?

Also I am lost on DJs- We only need a reception for around 4 hours. 

Just wondering if anyone has someone they or a friend used that they loved. We're trying to keep things reasonable and a month's salary for photos is currently hard to swallow.

    When I was looking, a lot of people recommended Alexandra Oat. It says that her packages start at $1300. It also depends on what style of photography you like.


    (I would recommend my photographer but she is no longer in the area.)

    My photographer is Melissa McClure. She has an assistant, Mandi, that also does wonderful photos and is a little cheaper. I would definitely recommend contacting them! Melissa already did our engagement photos and they are awesome!

    My DJ is Richie from Mexisurf Productions. I hadn't seen his name anywhere, but my planner Helena from Divine Events by Helena recommended him, and so many people recommended her that I trust her. My wedding isn't til Nov so I can't speak from experience but I trust Helena 100%!

    I used Alexandra Oat Photography for my wedding. I loved her photos, and her prices are great. I was really happy.

    Also take a look at:
    Bluewave Photo
    Cole Joseph Photography
    AS Photography--they are a little more than 2K, but I think their photos are stunning.

    Just google them to find their websites.

    Here are two DJS that my wedding planner recommended. Bill Calhoun was the most inexpensive of the quotes I have. Would I be aging myself in saying that he played at a bunch of my high school dances (almost 20 years ago) and was fantastic. Most reasonable price so far. I haven't heard him since high school but my wedding planner works with him a bunch at weddings and said he's great. Not available for my wedding date, otherwise would use him.

    Also, Scott Zimmerman at Events by Design.My planner highly recommended him. Spoke to him today and he was really cool. I was impressed. Think he's going to be who I go with.

    As an FYI, DJS seems to run between $850 to $1300 at least in my research so far. Hope that helps.

    My photographer is through a family friend and she is not local.

    HOwever, my DJ is from Musically Yours DJ: http://www.musicallyyoursdj.com/

    His name is Tony and when we met with him he was great. Our wedding is not until Nov but we are confident he will do a great job. We went to an appt for another company and didn't even get to meet with a DJ but rather a salesman type person and that's exactly what he did, without talking to any other company he tried to get us to buy on the spot by throwing discounts at us, which really turned us off, be aware of that for whoever you meet with. You always want to compare to at least one other company.

    Corbin Kell Photography, he did my wedding in Los Angeles but he told me owns or rents a condo down in La Jolla and does a lot of weddings down there as well.  Dj's, well we actually did the ipod thing...so sorry nobody there, but should be easy to find with the help of everybody on here.

    I just talked to a DJ yesterday who was the most reasonable one I've heard yet--DJ Erick with Mr A's Mobile Music.  He doesn't have a website yet, but my coordinator recommended him. He starts @ $600 for 4 hours, and it's an additional $100 per hour after that
