Specialty Drinks-Reception

I hope I'm posting this on the right board. For my wedding we are doing open bar. I was told that having specialty cocktails saves money. I've also noticed they do it a lot on My Fair Wedding (David Tutera) does anyone have any ideas on where I could get ideas or recipes from?

    Think about the time of year, time of day, food you're serving, and your theme (if you have one).  If you post more of those details, people might be able to suggest ideas.  We are going to have something made with blueberry vodka as our signature drink.  The vodka is locally made and it will go with our favors/escort cards, which are little jars of blueberry jam.  We are having a lunchtime wedding in the summer.

    We also are having an open bar but are serving Brandy slush's as our signature adult drink and Shirley Temple's as our kid friendly signature drink.  This is helping us cut down on the amount of alcohol we are purchasing and all the little extras that are needed in drinks, such as fruit.

    It will also be a bit time saver for our bartenters because both drinks will be pre-mixed. 

    Our reception is outdoors so in June we figured this would be a big guest pleaser!

    We served an alcoholic arnold palmer during cocktail hour - sweet tea vodka w/ lemonade. It was warm on our wedding day and it was a specialty that our venue did. It was really good - I haven't been able to replicate them as well at home!

    I currently dont have a theme. I love the Arnold Palmer idea. My wedding is in May. My colors are navy blue & I'm doing an accent color of that apple green color (chartreuse) so maybe I can do some kind of green drink. Maybe an apple martini or something. Thanks for the suggestions!

    <div>What kind of sweet tea vodka are you using?  We get the Firefly brand and it's pretty excellent.  One time I picked up Newman's Own Organic Lemonade--it was a little different, maybe more pulpy and less sweet--and it worked really well.  (Back to my red wine.)  </div>

    Go with cocktails you like!  We are having a 5 or 6 signatures because 1) we love cocktails, and 2) we want drinks with different types of alcohol available.

    we are doing

    margarita (tequilla)
    basil martini (vodka)
    dark and stormy (black rum, gingerale)
    bramble (gin and cassis)
    old fashion (scotch/bourbon)

    That sounds good. I can't remember the kind H got, but it was way too sweet. Drinkable, I guess, but it didn't taste like liquor at all, and I like to know I'm drinking alcohol.

    Love that idea!  If we weren't having a December wedding in the Midwest, I would TOTALLY steal that idea!  How fun.

    Talk to the bartender at the reception location. They might have a bad ass recipe for something. We are doing mango margs as our signature drink!
