Woot! MLH, we went to the downtown Orlando one in the morning, like right after it opened, and were only waiting about a half-hour.

How long before the wedding do you need to get the marriage license?
  • edited December 2011
I believe it was effective for 60 days, starting three days after you apply for it.

They are valid for 60 days. If you didn't do premarital counseling there is a 3 day waiting period for when it is valid after you go get it.

Ok cool beans! We just finished our premarital classes on Saturday so i guess whenever i'm done working we can go and get it. I have 39 days, i think i'll fit it in mid June.

    Thanks ladies!

Staci, when you say exactly 3 days can you give me an example?  We were planning to get the license on Friday with the wedding on Sunday - but that doesn't sound possible now.  Is it 3 days counting the day of the wedding?  So if we got the license on Thursday...we would be OK to get married on Sunday?  I didn't know about the 3 day wait....yikes

So we went on on 4/7 and our wedding was on 4/10.  so that meant we had to wait 4/7, 4/8, and 4/9 with it being valid on 4/10.  So if you went on Fri that would leave you one day shy.  I would go that thursday so you can use on Sunday.  It's actually kinda neat that our license was valid on our actual wedding date!

Jessica- can you believe we have only 39 days?

I actually live in Bradenton, FL so FI and I didn't wait at all at the Manatee Co court house. The whole process took 15 mins. :)

Good luck to all the ladies getting yours!

We went to the Sanford courthouse and it didn't take very long. We went about 45 minutes before they closed, I believe. We went and filled out our paperwork, then they told us they only accept cash for marriage licenses, which we didnt' know and they don't have an atm.  So we had to run down the street to find an atm and get back before they closed. If we hadn't had to do that, I think the whole process would have taken like 15-20 minutes including wait time.

And congratulations rockisblinding!  It's one step closer to the big day!
