Office Gift

I work in a pretty big office, like 30 people. Well they all chipped in an got me a card and a cash gift. Is it ok for me to write just one thank you to the whole office? I've seen it done before when we have given gifts for deaths and stuff for other occasions.

Re: Office Gift

  • I would write each person a thank you card...in an office of that size you never know who your next boss will be so going the extra mile may be good karma in your bag :)

This! I totally agree. Even if they all say basically the same thing the personalized note and recognizing everyone individually will show you are being gracious and not just adding another check to your pile.

  • My office did this when I bought my house.
I wrote one card and brought in bagels to say thank you.

We had a shower for a girl in my office who got married and she just wrote an email thank you to everyone.

Honestly I thought nothing of it, I really would not have expected a personal thank you from her, I think I only gave like $10!

  • I'd say just do one card and hang it in the breakroom. That's what people do in my office (but we have 100+ people). Surely no one will expect individual thank you cards for ONE big gift from everyone.

  • I really like PP's idea of one card and a cheap treat like doughnuts or bagels. If I went in on a gift with the entire office, I wouldn't expect an individual card.
  • I love the bagel idea! I work in an office of like 10 people though haha so thats easier for our office than for others... but bagels are always a hit!

  • I agree that in all the times I have given $ towards a wedding/baby shower gift, I have never expected a personal thank-you note.  Usually the person just sends an email thanking everyone.  I think it's a nice gesture to bring in treats as a thank-you too.
