Ugh Flight Itinerary Changed!

Ugh I'm so annoyed. FI forwarded me our new itinerary while I was in class and I just got a good chance to look at it. Before we had one flight straight to Honolulu. I hate flying so I was great with only having one flight because the landing kills my ears. Well now we're flying to LA with a 3 hour layover and not getting to Hawaii til 8:00. Here's what really annoys me. Our flight home is one flight that leaves at 7:30 PM and we won't get to Chicago til 8:30 the next morning and we'll have to drive 6 hours back to our place (stopping in the middle at our parent's places to get everything). We're both taking summer classes and now we're gonna miss our first days. Ugh!

Re: Ugh Flight Itinerary Changed!

  • That is frustrating. But, it will probably change again so don't fret too much. Where in Honolulu are you staying?

  • Why don't you call the airline and see if they can switch you to flight that go in and out of Des Moines?  Since you're going to have to connect anyway, it might buy you the time you need.

Tell them that switching the scheduled flights you doesn't work with your schedule and see if they'll waive the change fee.
  • Well if we change to Des Moines we'll have to drive 6 hours anyways (3 to our parents then 3-3 1/2 back). We'll probably just stick with it and FI said his class starts later so there's a chance he'll make it. I'll just email the teacher once I'm registered and hope that they don't do much since it'll be the first day

We're staying on Waikiki (not listing hotel because I don't wanna take any chances)
  • If they switched the flight itinerary on you after you booked it, they should waive the change fees (though you will probably still have to pay the difference in fares). Just be as calm as possible, mention you are traveling for your honeymoon and hopefully they will make your changes.

We have a direct flight from JFK to Oahu-11 hours on a plane, I might go crazy. Our flight back leaves at 3:10pm and arrives in NYC at 6:55am, I may barely be rational enough to drag myself to the taxi stand and give them the address to take me home.

FILs bought our tickets as our wedding gift. I'll most likely stick with the schedule just annoyed  at the drastic change.
  • Why do you have to drive to your parents to then drive home?  Just wondering since Jeannine's suggestion would be pretty good if you could swing it.
  • Well that's annoying. Ours changed too, but it doesn't inconvenience us as much. Just two hours earlier leaving the day after the wedding and I hate morning with a a passion.

Hope you can get it worked out.

To pick up our gifts and everything else from the wedding plus our kitten since they'll be watching her while we're gone.
  • That makes sense.  Ugh, that does suck.  I would still try calling just to see if there's any other options at all, although that much driving after that much flying sucks no matter which way you slice it.
  • It seems like they have been changing a lot of itineries lately. Our non stop flight was broken up into smaller hops. We still get to the final destination at the same time. However, I wanted to stay away from the small hops. This is flying to the wedding destination. So far our other flights have not changed.

When we were looking at going to Alaska, the flights coming back all left at 1:30 am. There were some that left in the evening that would arrive the next afternoon.

I wish mine was still non stop. I've had horrible ear problems and it really messes with them
  • The joys of flying. That totally sucks, though.

I hear you there. Make sure you have a lot of gum. But nothing is as worse as trying to fly with a head cold.

At least you will have a break in LAX and get some food and stretch the legs.

  • I hate when that happens.
In Dec we went to Denver; we booked the flight for 5:00pm , FI had to work so I could pick him up from work and head straight to the airport. They changed the flight to 10:00am I was so mad. FI had to talk his boss into letting him have the day off. I was so annoyed.

I have to go to FIL's house first and then drive 10 hours home.. so I feel your pain. My flight gets in 11:59 on Tuesday night.. I have to drive 10 hours on Wed. and be at work on that Thursday.. ugh! Hopefully it all works out... or who knows they may change it again!
  • Aw, I'm sorry about the change. That really sucks. :(

    Sorry that happend Zims!

Can they change anyones flights? Or is this only if you book with third parties like Expedia or Travelocity? We are looking at spacific flights, and that may not be a good idea. :(

I was laughing at some of those excuses.  Thank you for making my day better.

Flights change all the time.  Plus with it being so far out they are still making a lot more changes.  This is part of the reason why I'm waiting to book our flights.

Wow that's pretty unprofessional of those professors. I'm just going to email them and explain our flights were originally scheduled to land on the 10th and see if I'll miss too much the first day. If I do I can take it in the fall
  • My flights also got changed.  I think we have 3 hour layovers now, but at least they fall around lunch time so we will be able to stretch our legs and grab some lunch.  It might actually be good for our sanity.

There's a point when the stuff disrespectful students throw at faculty gets pretty ridiculous.  Faculty aren't robots.  They're humans.  Highly credentialed humans who are far more intelligent than the snowflake that is telling them to FedEx class notes.

Back in the day, you didn't put the responsibility on the professor to tell you what you missed.  You made arrangements with someone else in the class to get you the info.  The professor was doing their job...they were teaching the class.  Our job was to show up, soak up the info, learn it, and produce the expected outcomes.
