Checks ahoy! Cake PIP!

Just to follow-up from yesterday's post, the venue meeting went really well! We got a lot of things finalized including a preliminary timeline, our menu, linen colors...and of course the CAKE! And we were able to get all three flavors - thanks to everyone who made suggestions there - so FI and I didn't have to hash it out over his irrational love of red velvet.

We're getting this design, only the base color will be ivory instead of chocolate, and the scrollwork will be in gold:

And topped off with our nerdy DIY cake topper!

Now the next thing we need to figure out is our signature cocktail. Back when we booked everything and got our reception package figured out, FI begged and pleaded for a booze-dispensing ice sculpture and I caved, LOL. So basically, whatever cocktail we decide to do will get a clever name and be poured through the ice luge. Only problem is that the possibilities here are endless! I was kind of thinking about some sort of cosmo. FI suggested an appletini. Any thoughts?

  • Maybe do someting fall themed? Could they pull off a carmel appletini? Then FI could have his appletini and it would still be fall realted.

  • I'm so jealous of your ice luge!!!  I have always wanted one at our wedding but it's just not in the budget.  What are your colors?  I would find some sort of martini that matches your colors, if you can.

It actually didn't cost too much, in the grand scheme of things. Probably because our venue contracts with the ice guy and we don't have to hire him directly. My guess is he gives the venue a good rate because he gets so much business from them.

Our colors are plum purple and yellow/gold, so I suspect finding a cocktail that matches one of those and still tastes good would be a pretty tall order!

  • You could do a lemon flavored drink - lemoncello (sp?) martini or a lemon drop martini would be delish! But I'm a big lemon fan :) There's a restaurant in my area that serves purple margaritas that are really good, but not sure how difficult they are to make.

  • I love your cake topper!!!  Hmm, I would probably go with a lemon drink if you are sticking with colors, only because I feel like men will drink a lemon shot, moreso than a grape (or whatever could be purple).

  • I guess it depends on if color or season is more important-- I think of lemon drinks as being more summery. Certainly delicious, though! If you're going for fall, an apple drink is really good. The bar at your venue (CH, right?) makes a really good pumpkin-pie flavored drink!
