Do you tip on site hair and make-up artist?

Hi Ladies, I am investigating having someone come on-site to do hair and make-up for myself and my bridal party.

Is it typical to tip someone if they do this?

One vendor I am considering charges a $50 travel fee, $350 for the bride, and $120 per person for bridal party.

The other is less expensive, with no travel fee.

I'm trying to determine how much money my bridal party and I will pay in total for this service...if the price is usually all-inclusive or if the stylist expects a tip, too!

I've heard that the rule of thumb for all vendors is if they are the owner you do not tip them but if they aren't they get a tip.

I had the same question, our photographer offers a package that includes a make-up artist and hairsytlist. I have paid for hair and make up for myself and my bridesmaids. I was planning to pay and tip for my mom's hair because it is not included in my contract but she has agreed to do my mom's hair too. Is that ok?

I tipped my MUA 20% just like I would at the salon. They all appreciate a tip, whether they own their business or not. However $350 for the bride is by far the most I have ever heard of, although the $120 for the BP falls in line. I can't imagine tipping on that--I don't think I could have afforded it.

I always tip.... however, I think tipping is a personal preference. If they charge a travel fee I don't think you have to tip as MUCH, but if they do a REALLY good job I would still give a little something.

Thanks for the insight and opinions. I guess my expecation is similar to other posters - if they own the business I don't necessarily tip, but if they did a good work a tip is often deserved!

I should clarify that the $350 for the bride includes a trial of both the hair and make-up, false eyelash application (at trial and day-of), and a lip gloss to keep.

The less expensive place I considered is $150 for the bride, plus $40 for hair trial, another $40 for make-up trial, and $15-$20 for false eye lashes. So, that could be about $250 total.
