Re: Newbie Monday! New Girls, Come in!

  • Hi Ladies!!!
I am so excited to start planning my wedding! I used to live in Fort Lauderdale years ago but have been living in Alaska for the past 4 years. I love it up here but I do miss the beach and the warm weather (specially at this time of year).
Anywho, weare planning a small, intimate wedding back in my hometown. We will be having guests from Alaska flying in as well as from Colombia (where all my family is from).
I am also pretty nervous about planning a wedding 5,000 miles away. I though about hiring a planner, it might make life easier but we are definitely on a bidget since we are also planning on buying a home. Any suggestions on how to save money on any wedding aspects, it would be greatly appreciated!!!
One thing I didn't realize that is SO pricey is phtographers. WOW!
We are having the reception and ceremony in my mom backyard (about a little over half an acre). Its a gorgeous yard and I wanted to do a vintage inspired wedding with a garden-y feel to it. If that makes any sense ?? lol
Well thats it for me! - Valerie

  • Welcome Valerie!

Wow! Alaska! That's pretty far (and cold!). Your wedding sounds just gorgeous.

I'd definitely look into a wedding planner since you're planning from a distance! They can actually save you money!

A few resonably priced but incredibly professional vendors are:

  • Welcome and congrats Valerie!!  I know exactly how you feel.  FI and I are planning our wedding from NY.  We are also planning to have our reception at my parents house in West Palm.  Sounds like we have alot in common.  :)

  • Wow thanks Faith!!! Ill look into those vendors! I appreciate that! Cathy, its such a different experience not being able to have a bit of control over things... you just have to hopefully trust your gut with your planner! Have you hired a planner? I can't wait to go dress shopping! :)

  • Hi Everyone!

I'm getting at The Borland Center in Palm Beach Gardens. I love this venue. Its not like other venues that have a color scheme or pattern that my wedding will clash with. Its a blank canvas. My theme is old hollywood and I will even have a red carpet as my aisle. Im so excited and cant wait to be a MRS.!!!
I have all my vendors except the caterer. Im having the hardest time accepting the prices. Plus the bar is crazy expensive... Im thinking of doing the bar myself. Any thoughts?
