Name Tags at Bridal Shower??

I am my friend's MOH and am in the process of planning her shower. I received a guest list of about 50 women. I'm wondering if name tags for everyone would be a nice touch? I figure this is the first time the families may be meeting each other. What are your thoughts on this? I'm not a big fan of asking everyone to stand up and say their name and how they know the bride. Help!

I hate those things. And I'd hate standing up and saying how I know the bride even more.

I assume most of these guests are adults. They know how to socialize and make introductions. I'd think that's all that's needed.

Just have a pen and nametags out. If someone REALLY doesn't want to wear them, no one will force them.

Edit: This is only IF you want nametags, i agree with pp that they're not necessary.

I agree with this entire statement. I hate nametags, but I hate standing up in a group and stopping a party even more by unecessary introductions that no one will remember especially in a group of 50 women. Just let the guests mingle on their own and they'll introduce themselves to each other in a much more comfortable and party flowing way.

Well, thank you for your feedback. Unfortunately, some of you take a nasty tone with your responses. My intent is not to treat guests "like children." I simply wanted some opinions on the matter. And McKenna - your response is useless. Try being constructive with what you say.

I don't think anyone had a nasty tone. You asked for opinions, and we all gave honest opinions/answers. It's better for someone to come on the boards and throw out an idea and have a bunch of internet strangers let them know it's not a good idea then to actually incorporate it into a socail pre-wedding function and have the guests feel uncomfortable or complain about it behind the hostess' backs.
The regular posters on The Knot give good constructive criticism for the most part. Some people may take it as harsh or rude because we're just typing and you can't hear the tones of our voices or they don't like the answers they're getting. But if you stick around, you'll get good honest advice. I learned so much by being on these boards while planning my wedding, and there were definitely times I didn't like the answers I was getting, but realized they were coming from people who knew what they were talking about.

I don't think my response was useless. When someone mentions nametags, my reaction is always UGH. Would you prefer I had said, "Golly! I sure don't care much for having to wear nametags!" Because I think UGH was a good translation of that and much easier to type from my phone. So piss off.

I've been on this site for over a year, and I want honest opinions - just not attitudes like the chick who posted above me. Someone who joined last month and has posted over 700 times doesn't seem to have much of a life... which explains why she updates from her phone.

To be honest, her reaction is exactly what I'd be thinking if I walked into a shower and saw nametags set out on the table.

I don't think anyone was being directly rude to you, just stating opinions. Granted, those opinions were not the exact responses you wanted to hear, but you asked for them.

That being said, I don't mind standing up and introducing myself or weaing a nametag. It helps when you're in a large group and don't know everyone.

Nelicker: I too am planning a Bridal Shower for 50 + at a Country Club and I am going to be using Name Tags at it. The Bride's Mother thinks its a GREAT idea and so does the Groom's Mother !! They both are worried that they won't remember everyone's names and they each do not know all of the people attending the event. I have already printed the name tags out with each person's name & their relationship to the Bride or Groom on them. Dot.com has some really cute name tags on their site. Not your usual ... Hello My Name Is. Go to their Bridal Shower Invite section and do a search and find they have all types of name tags in every color and designs. Mine are pink, brown & teal and they have turned out looking classy !! So I say ... GO for it and do the name tags !!
