is this odd?

My photographer requires 1/3 down, 1/3 six months before the wedding and the last payment 30 days before the wedding. My mom says this is a huge red flag b/c they have all of our money and could potentially not show, I told that is what a contract is for and she said that still wouldn't change anything if they didnt show.

Has anything ran into this before? Do your photographers require all to be paid prior to the wedding? Help me to understand this.

Thanks!

A few of our vendors have the same policity. Seems pretty normal.

My photographer is pretty similar. Sounds pretty standard to me. You will most likely be running into this often as you book vendors.

Who is your photographer? Maybe someone here will know them and can speak to their credibility.

Good idea! And thanks for the responses. My Photog is Creative Image Photography out of Bothell, WA. It is a couple, Daphne and Craig. Please if anyone has worked with them let me know!

I haven't heard of them at all. Maybe there will be someone else who has.

If you really feel uneasy with them, I know the brides here have lots of recommendations for photographers, if you want to look into others. Not sure if you have booked them yet, or have your heart set on them or not.

A board favorite is Jenny GG photography. www.jennygg.com

I am using F7 photography and I cannot recommend them enough! They have absolutely beautiful work and they are wonderful, fun friendly people. They are a husband and wife team and all of their packages include both of them shooting and ALL day UNLIMITED shooting.

Another one that I know a few brides have used is C2 photography.

I am sure there are others. You could always make a post about it and get more recommendations if you are interested in doing more shopping around.

Also remember that you sign a legal contract with them. You have recourse if something goes wrong intentionally on their end.

my photog requires their fee to be paid in full a couple weeks before the wedding. i think its pretty standard. like others said, just be sure to sign a contract.

Not too odd at all. I have heard of Creative Image and haven't heard anything negative. It's common for vendors to want final payments before the wedding. The thing is that the vendors' moms are also saying, "Since they already have your day booked and if they bailed, you wouldn't be able to find work for that day, you should get your money up front."

If you've done your legwork in the beginning - reading reviews, checking references, and ensuring that you have a good contract - you should be pretty safe or at least are protected if things do go wrong.
