Seating chart hell!

Oh god, is anyone else fighting with their seating charts right now? FI and I were up till 1 am last night trying to figure it out. We abandoned ship and plan to regroup tonight. He wants to write names on a bunch of post it notes and stick them to the wall for a visual aid. How come our family and friends can't just neatly divide into groups of 10??

Ooooo I can help!

I used the seating chart tool from Wedding Wire (www.weddingwire.com) this weekend and it was SOOO easy. You do have to add all of your guests names to your guest list but that's not hard (you have to have a Wedding Wire account, but that's free) and then you can draw out your venue's floor plan and literally drag guests to a table. It was a great way to visualize who is closer to the DJ, bar, etc.

We are having the same issue. I started with tables of 10 but after talking to the planner at the reception location we have changed it to 8 because I wanted to give them a little room to breath. It has not been easy. I was thinking of drawling round tables and seating people but I like the sticky notes better. You can just move them lol

We kind of collected people in groups as we got their RSVPs. It wasn't perfect, and there's definitely some uneven tables going on, but it worked for us.

Good luck! Post-Its always help me with stuff (for some reason, I'm much more likely to finish a to-do list on a post-it than in a notebook, ha ha).

I used the knots seating chart and FI & I gave up on even amounts of people at tables. Our tables easily seat 10-12 so all our tables have 9-11 people at them.

LOL I did a general seating chart ... but after getting frustrated I gave up and FI did it... then I made a chart from that...

with tables etc... and they can sit where they want at the table! lol

Yeah, our tables range from 8-11 at a table. Our venue said that we could have 7-11 people per table. I called them to make sure that 11 isn't too crowded and they said that it's fine but definitely not to put 12 people at a table.

I got an idea from our florist....
We used paper plates on the kitchen table, #d them and recreated our ballroom and marked where FI and I were sitting, the DJ, dance floor, bar, etc and then used post its for each person and arranged people in tables from 8-12, our venue said 10 is best but some tables we did 12 bc lets face it i wasnt paying for extra centerpieces.

I recommend not showing anybody your chart when you are done. I showed FMIL and she had suggestions ugh! Anyway, I used The Knot chart and it was easy.

I normally don't advocate use of TK's tools but I used their seating chart tool and it was great. It's the same idea as wedding wire and you can upload your guest list using an excel template so you don't need to key them in. It made life so much easier.

We have tables of 8, we grouped people together (work people, families etc).. added some strays.... we definitely don't have even tables, most have 8, some have 7, 6 and one 5.

I just keep telling myself they will only be there to eat, and then will move around!

We just used Microsoft Word. We created tables and have put using text boxes to put people in. I tried to use TK's site but it's kind of tedious to move people back and forth. I was planning on between 8-10 per table but after talking to the caterer I've been working on coming down more to 7-8 per table.

Most of our guests kind of evenly split with the families and all, but I have a few that may end up at like a random table.

This. I started off with all tables of 8. Then things got moved around so I have some 8s, some 7s, some 6s. I wish I could figure out a way to combine and drop out of a table but it just isn't working.

I used excel. Made 13 tables, slots of 8 at each and just started dragging and dropping.

I also used The Knot's seating tool and found it very easy and VERY helpful. Most of my tables have 10 people, amazingly, but I have one table of 11, and one with only 6, and few 8's etc. Good luck!!
