** CurlyGirlyGirl ** (Re: Maui Recs)

I just wanted to thank you for the Maui recs! We ate at Aloha Mixed Plate twice and went to Mama's Fish House for our anniversary, and went to the Gazebo for breakfast too. They were all wonderful. We ended up at Aloha Mixed Plate for our last dinner and listened to the luau music. It was a great end to the vacation.

For anyone else wanting Maui info:

Try to get on the Pacific Whale Foundation's early morning snorkel trip to Molokini crater and Turtle Arches. They leave from the Harbor at 7 am, but we were the second boat out there and had the place to ourselves before all the other tourists arrived!

If you want to horseback ride, go to Mendes Ranch. It's on the north part of the western side of Maui, totally out of the way, but it's the best ride I've ever been on. If you are experienced, they'll let you have a horse that will gallop up the hills! So beautiful and enjoyable.

Downhilling Haleakela... we ended up on an late morning ride down the volcano.  Not the best. It was only about 40 minutes on the bike and we didn't go to the top. If you're up to it, get the sunrise trip. You have to be there at 3am, but if you do it the morning after you arrive, you should be able make the early morning ride and then back for a nap. The sunrise ride takes you to the top and is supposedly better than the one we did. :(

Glad you had a good time and a happy anniversary to you!  We're thinking that the Aloha Mixed Plate is going to be our first stop when we get in b/c our room isn't going to be ready until a few hours after we get in!

Mama's is such an experience - beautiful scenery, and I felt so relaxed the whole time I was there.  Although it would be nice to go back, we don't think we'll be eating there this summer so we can have two good meals elsewhere.  We loved the Old Lahaina Luau next door to the Mixed Plate, but think we'll probably just sit at the mixed plate and enjoy their music for the same reason as Mama's.

I would be so worried to ride a bike like that!  I've heard that the national park service doesn't allow people to bike the top 1/3 of the ride anymore - that's too bad.

We've been looking into snorkel trips this week and actually had the Pacific Whale Foundation at the top of our list!  We're thinking about doing the 7.25 hour Molokini/Lanai trip.  Was it super crowded on the boat, and did you get a seat along the side up top?  How was the food/drink situation?  I've heard that part is questionable, based on tripadvisor reviews.

I still can't believe I've been married for almost a year...

We had seats upstairs. I was really glad 'cause the potty stinks (you cannot flush TP, so it has to go in the trash and it's pretty nasty, but that's how every boat is). The boat was full, but it wasn't overwhelmingly crowded at all. The food was totally fine. If you're a vegetarian, all of those "lunch included" things suck because they give you like one pasta dish. I think they had chicken, hotdogs, and burgers, along with pasta. It tasted fine and my husband even got white meat chicken.
