5 months away--starting to stress

Hi guys!!!

I really wasnt stressed about the wedding until now.  Now I just want it done! lol.  I really wanted a silent movie playing in the background at my reception hall, but the lady for the hall is mean and says people will trip over the projection wires. lol.  Also, she wont let me dim the lights in the ceremony room, because they dont work.  Knowing I wanted a dimly lit wedding, she could have told me this before!!!  argh!  Also, they said chair covers may not work because the chairs are super big.  This is after I put a $400 deposit down on chair covers.

I feel like booking the hall, dj and cake was easy, and it would all be easy from there.  Now we are running into problems that I didnt know existed, and Im stressing!! sorry for the rant :)

I'm sorry, Jenny!  Is there any way you can reason with the chair cover people, or perhaps use that deposit for something else you need?

  • Good idea!  Im just really hoping that somehow, the chair covers will fit. lol :)
  • That's silly about the projectors, especially with all the technology we have now. Not to mention, you could just put some tasteful carpets over the wires. It's weird that the lady is bringing all this stuff up now. What if, instead of using the overhead lights in the space, you brought in some lamps? You could borrow, buy, or find antique looking laps at stores, plug 'em in, voila, a dimmly lit reception space that has even more turn-of-the-century charm. I'm having a 20s themed wedding, and we're using a TON of paper lanterns because asian culture was really popular in the states at the time. You can get a string of paper lanterns, or mini lantern-shaped lanterns at Target for between ten and twenty dollars. Thread them from tent-poles over the dancefloor. Use vintage oil lanterns as centerpieces for even more of a glow. If the lady won't give you your dimmly lit space, don't use her lights. ;)

Does the space you're renting provide things like televisions? If so you could just burn some disks of silent movies and scatter some tvs around. Not as cool as a projector, but it's an idea. I would still try and reason with her over the projector though. There are ways to keep people from tripping over cords.

  • Sorry, I misread and thought you were talking about reception dim lighting. But most everything I mentioned for the reception would work for the ceremony. You could set oil lanterns at the end of every other isle, and still scatter antique floor lamps around the outside of the space. Really, you can make it work yourself if your lady isn't going to be any help to you. :) Chin up, dearie!

  • i am sorry.....I am crazy stressed too
  • Thanks guys!  I like the idea of the lanterns....Ill have to check it out :)
  • Okay, three thoughts:
First, this lady sounds like a nightmare.  She's doing nothing to help you solve your problems or to make you happy.  You have my sympathy!

Second, is it possible to do something like this?  Change some of the light bulbs to a lower wattage (even if you have to buy the light bulbs yourself - you can keep them and use them later!), and unscrew others (just enough to "disconnect" them), until you have the kind of lighting you want.

Third, I know that in Hollywood there's something that goes by a name more-or-less like "rear screen projection," where the projector is BEHIND the screen.  Can you rent something like that where you are?  Would that get the projector out of harm's way?  If that's not possible, I'm sure there must be some way to make the "projector wire" area off limits to guests, by putting a table over it or plants in front of it or something.

I hope you can figure out SOME way to get what you want!  Not only because you want it, but because I want you to outsmart that dreadful woman!
