MUA timeframe

Hi ladies!

I am wondering if it is normal for a MUA to have more than one event booked for a certain day...it seems that the MUA I am looking into booking may have other weddings to attend to on the same day, especially since she mentioned that other brides are requesting her for our day.  Is this normal?  We only have 4 people getting makeup done that day, so it shouldn't take too long, I just dont want to feel rushed by her....

Re: MUA timeframe

  • Is she doing hair and makeup, or just makeup? In my experience, hair and makeup each take an hour.

She will be doing the makeup while my hairstylist does the hair...I think we'll be switching off, one does hair then moves to makeup and vice versa...

  • OK... still sounds like it will take around 4 hours. You also need to consider exactly which hours you will need her. For example, we are going to need 6-7 hours for our girl, and it needs to be done by 4, so she will start around 9. Since we will have her from 9-4, I don't think she would have much time to do another wedding.
But if you were having an 11am wedding, she could possibly do another small wedding for that evening.
It sounds like she could be rushed either way.
  • Ok thank you!  That helps a lot!  The ceremony will be @6:30PM and we were thinking of starting around noon in order to give us time to get dressed and calm down and say some prayers.

  • Yeah, definitely work backwards. Because our ceremony starts at 7, we want to start taking pictures at 5:30, so we want to leave our hotel (where we are all getting our hair and makeup done) at 4, so we want to start our hair and makeup around 9. Everything is pretty well buffered, but I want to allow down time/ time for errors!
  • You sound like you have it under control!  Much better than I do lol!

I really wanted to have pictures of us done while we were getting ready, but the venue we chose has very small rooms for the bride and groom, so we are getting ready @ our house (FI not included!) and then meeting with the photogs @ the venue for pictures etc.  I guess we can just stage some of the "getting ready" pics and take some getting dressed pics also lol.

  • In answer to your question, it is not unheard of for a MUA to schedule multiple weddings if the schedule allows. My MUA didn't have another wedding on my wedding day, but she did have one the day she did my makeup for my Epics. The general rule of thumb is an hour for the bride and 30 minutes for each BM for makeup only but you will need to allow the same for hair.
  • Thanks Stephi!  I will definitely keep that in mind!

  • My MUA/Hair team had another wedding after mine.
I think they got to the room at 9:30 and we left at 1:15. There were 3 BMs,2 mothers and me.
As for scheduling, I asked her how long she thought it would take and then made my schedule around that.

I'm pretty much doing the same thing...as long as she returns my emails!  I'm not sure if I want to use her yet...she's been a tad bit flaky with her responses...we'll see what happens!
