</div><div>First I would start with estimating on your budget.  Around how much can you spend.  Designate who will pay for what.  Maybe your parents will be helping or maybe you and your fiance will be paying for it all.  Then estimate how many people you want to come to your wedding.  That will dictate where your venue will be since all venues have a certain amount of people they can accomodate.  All the while be thinking about what kind of vision you see for your wedding.  I did this by tearing out a bunch of pics from magazines and surfing the web.  Especially this site!  There are ideas for everything here!  Use the tools from this site.  Look at inspiration boards people post.  Also pinterest is another good site.  (I'm gonna get one soon.)  </div><div>
</div><div>I think that is a good starting point.  I don't have a wedding planner but I feel that since we do have a lot of time to plan we can take one task at a time so we don't get overwhelmed.    So far wedding planning for me has been fun and stressful but more fun.  Just remember your doing this for your wedding and for the man you're gonna marry!  With this in mind happy planning and I hope this helped!</div>

Yep, I would start by figuring out how much money you and df are willing to spend, then I would start discussing themes and/or colors you would like as this could influence the type of venue you have and thirdly I would start to compile a guest list!

    Happy Planning!

  • Congrats!  I've been engaged for 6 weeks, and the first thing we did was talk about what is most important for each of us to have or include in the wedding.  This helped us get on the same page and set our budget.  I agree with the others - setting a budget should be the first thing you do.

I recommend having a tentative guest list before looking at venues if the places you're looking at have maximum capacities.  Our date is 9/13/13, and everyone thought I was crazy when I asked our parents for their guest list the week after we got engaged.  Long story short, only 1 parent gave me their list and we ended up booking a room that has a max capacity of 180 only to find out our immediate families only (aunts, uncles, cousins, close family friends) are 190 people.  Luckily, the place we booked has a larger ballroom that was still open on our date so we were able to switch to that room and just pay an extra deposit.

Now that the venue is booked, we're researching photographers.  After we book the photographer, it's dress shopping (!!!) then finding a florist.

  • Thanks everyone so much know I know I'm on the right track.. I was like ok am I doing this right? Ok ladies you all are a blessing thanks makes me feel so muchbetter...
  • First off Congrats!  You have already started by setting a date!  One thing down.

    I agree with everyone else...

Start with budget and # of quest.  The guest list will def be a big part of everything you do.  At least get around about # of how many you want.

Try to have fun and not let it stress you out to much!!
