Fun Music Ideas, Please?

Jonathan and I have been discussing music for the various parts of our wedding...we're looking for something fun but still wedding approrpiate. What we don't want is another rendition of Pachebel's Canon in D while the bridal party walks in. We are open to suggestions for anything and everything from cake cutting to recessional music.

We've thrown around a few ideas, and the only thing we're pretty set on is our First Dance song. So even if somethign is listed, feel free to make suggestions!

Prelude:
Processional: Somewhere Over The Rainbow by I. Kamakawiwol'ole
Bridal Entrance: Put Your Arms Around Me by Texas
Recessional:

First Dance: Wake Up by Coheed & Cambria
Mother-Son:
Father-Daughter:
Generation Dance:
Garter: You Can Leave Your Hat On by Joe Cocker
Bouquet:
Cake Cutting: Sugar Sugar by The Archies

Re: Fun Music Ideas, Please?

  • Have you asked the groom's mother and your father if they have a preference for dance songs? My dad picked our father-daughter dance.

  • Prelude Rock songs by Vitamin String Orchestra.  They take mainstream songs and play them orchestra style, which was great because Grandma said she loved the classical music we selected and our friends were saying they couldn't believe we played Nirvana.  We had AC/DC, Nirvana, Kiss, Aerosmith, Led Zepplin, ect.
Processional: Somewhere Over The Rainbow by I. Kamakawiwol'ole Same  as prelude.  They walked into whatever song happened to be on
Bridal Entrance: Put Your Arms Around Me by Texas  Chasing Cars by Vitamin String Orchestra
RecessionalNone, we walked out to applause

Entry into Reception:  KarnEvil 9 by Emerson, Lake, Palmer
First Dance: Wake Up by Coheed & Cambria  Thank you by Led Zepplin
Mother-Son: Joined in halfway through the father/daughter dance
    Father-Daughter: Imagine by John lennon
    Generation Dance: Didn't do one
Garter: You Can Leave Your Hat On by Joe Cocker  Didn't toss
    Bouquet: Didn't toss
Cake Cutting: Sugar Sugar by The Archies Savoy Truffle by the Beatles

The titles bolded and underlined were the ones we did for those events.  As you can see, we strayed big time from the typical choices and went for songs that screamed us.  Most of the songs you have listed are very typical for weddings.

I agree with PP.  FI and his mother should pick out their song unless they are ok coming in halfway through the father/daughter dance.
    ROCK IS KING!!
  • If you're getting married in a church, you'll need to check with them about music restrictions that they might have for the ceremony.

I agree with pps that FI and his mom should get to choose the music for their dance.

As for things like cake cutting, bouquet tossing, garter tossing, just realize that no one really pays attention to the music playing except other brides who are planning their own weddings.  Ask your dj for some ideas, but realize that it's just really not that important to spend more than 5 minutes thinking about music for those three parts.
"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146
  • THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! I am loving this whole Vitamin String Quartet thing...I've been scouring YouTube for different songs. LOVE Coldplay's "Yellow" cover!! *beams* You seriously just made my bloody day!

As far as the Parent-Child dances...nobody has expressed any kind of opinion. My Daddy said to pick whatever and my future mum-in-law says she has no idea what to pick because her favorite songs are not "appropriate" according to her.
