nails and makeup

Although my wedding is about 7 months away I have been worrying about my nails and makeup. My mom is big on the french tip and says its classy and elegant looking, but I've noticed that the trend is steering away from that. I still want to have my nails done so that they will last through the honeymoon but I don't know what the best color and stuff is without looking skank or redneck. When it comes to makeup I will be doing it myself because I have never had good luck when I've had it done for prom and stuff and I love doing makeup. Right now I am a college student and am on a drug store makeup budget and I know all the good brands but when I graduate in may and have the money to buy makeup for this wedding I want to know which one will have the most natural look and will last all day. Thanks :)

Re: nails and makeup

  • Depends on your skin type and color.

I'd go into a sephora and consult with someone there.  They have a great return policy, so if you get something home and don't like it, you can return it.
  • Like PP said, I would go to a Sephora rep and have them do a testing/consultation and try out some of their products. As for nails, I don't really like the french tips, but I wanted something that was fun yet not over the top. I'm contemplating something like this:

thank you both, I was thinking about going to Sephora, Merle Norman or Belk, but I will definitely go to Sephora now.  And thinks for the nail ideas from Pinterest, it is my new google, I had been looking for ideas on there but had not found anything, love the idase you gave.  if you find anymore feel free to post them on here or follow me on Pinterest.  :)
  • Have you ever tried schellac for your nails? It is relatively new and getting more popular. It lasts almost 3 weeks. Call your local nail salon to find out. Usually runs around 20-35 dollars. As for the color, go with your gut! Whatever would make you feel pretty! As for makeup, I really don't know. Mostly buy MAC.

  • I second the Shellac. It's a gel that goes on top of your natural nail, lasts about 2 weeks. I'm having it done 2 days before my wedding and it should last me through my week long honeymoon...let's hope. It comes in about 15 or so different colors, alot of light pinks and pretty neutral colors that would look nice for a wedding.

  • As far as nail colors go... I would stick to something pretty and neutral. I've seen brides do a deep shade of blue or something and it looks very pretty, but when you look back on it in a few years you might wonder why? Essie and OPI have about 100 shades each of sheer or opaque light pinks, pearly whites and metalics. If you live near an ULTA they carry both brands. :) Also- I've heard shellac is awesome as well..
