Weird question. What type bible do you have? I am looking to get a new one. I am using the same FCA bible from high school and I want a more "mature" bible. Any recommendations?

I've used NIV my entire life, but I love the NLT translation now. And it's really nice when I use it at Bible study since we all have different translations and we can compare. But I really like how this translation reads. It was budget friendly and a beautiful Bible in general.
I love the ESV. The NASB is the most literal translation from the original Greek and Hebrew, but it's awkward to read. The ESV is a very literal translation, but just flows better than the NASB. I use NASB when I'm preparing lessons and doing Word Studies, but I use the ESV to actually teach out of and for personal reading.
My study Bible is NIV, and I have the ESV on my Kindle and for the mini Bible in my purse (I prefer NIV in general, though). DH uses the New King James.
The NIV and NLT are parephraphes... the NRSV is more word for word... There is going to be a better translation coming out very very soon that will be in Modern day language so I would suggest buying a cheap bible now... and see what all is out there.... I also have a side by side that I LOVE!!! Look into those for bible study!
From Wikipedia, emphasis mine: The New Living Translation (NLT) is a translation of the Bible into modern English. Originally starting out as an effort to revise The Living Bible, the project evolved into a new English translation from Hebrew and Greek texts.
I have an NIV that I've used for a long time and love because it is familiar, but the next Bible I buy will be an ESV Study Bible. I think it's important to have a study Bible because it helps you understand so much context that you wouldn't be able to know otherwise (unless you're a biblical scholar). When I know the area and type of people that Paul was writing to, I can better understand what he's saying, and a study Bible can tell me those things.
FI and I both use NIV and I like it. We have study Bibles and I am so thankful for them because a lot of the time I get confused and the notes at the bottom help me to understand.
I have the NIV Study Bible right now (have had it since basically high school) and it's done well. The next one I get will be the ESV. I love the ESV translation. I'll get one in leather so I can get my new name on it at some point ... :-)
July 16, Our Wedding Day, is also International Juggling Day!
my FMIL swears by the NKJV. When we have Bible studies...we all read out of the NKJV. I used to have a NIV...but for Christmas my FI got me a Life Application Bible for Women in the NKJV (with a pink [my favorite color] case! he is soo thoughtful and amazing!).
I just got a new one for Christmas - it's a New King James parralleled with Amplified. I love parallel bibles because they have multiple translations.
The only thing I don't like about this one is that it's not a "study" bible. I liked all the little extra advice, hints, and facts my previous bible gave me. One such tip was that Methusalah died the same year as the great flood. No one knows if he died before or during the flood - only that it was the same year.
I heard that the new NIV bible that will be coming out soon will be pretty different....like making things less gender specific and more "PC" Is this true? Has anyone else heard about this?
