father/daughter dance

So I always loved the song 'I loved her first' by Heartland. My dad used to always listen to country as we were growing up so I thought that song was perfect. Then, I tried to listen to it a bunch of times and would literally blubber every time..

Anyway, I call my dad because I wanted to see how he was and ask him to start thinking of songs. He tells me he can't remember off the top of his head what song he wants but he said it's a GREAT country song. I ask if its that one and he says "yes! Thats the one!"

AH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't think I'll be able to get through it. Just thinking about it is making me tear up. I was hoping he'd pick his fav karaoke song or something.. the song he named me after.... ah!

Anyone else have issues about 'leaving' their dad? I am SUCH a daddy's girl. I feel like marriage means that I'll never be able to go home again to my dad. I love FI and he'll take care of me but the fact that I'm not my dad's girl anymore is sad! hahaha

I might be crazy but I can't help it.

I could NOT pick a sappy song because every time I heard one before the wedding I would be hysterical. It was ridiculous. So I told my dad to pick from "Sweet Melissa" or "Isn't She Lovely?" I personally preferred the first, but he liked "Isn't She Lovely?" so we went with that.

You will ALWAYS be daddy's girl. :) And if you cry, who cares? Your guests will think it's sweet (except for the stupid ones and who cares about them?)

I think that's really sweet!  I was originally going to pick Kenny Rogers' "Through the Years" because I remember listening to Kenny Rogers music with my dad, but Tim McGraw's "My Little Girl" has stuck in my head since the first time I heard it.

I couldn't get it out of my head so I asked my dad what he wanted.  He said he recently downloaded "My Little Girl" and he got choked up.  He said, that's a better song, but it could be interesting.  My dad isn't one to show emotion and I was in tears the first time I heard it!!  I hope we can get through it!

If you cry it's okay. I didn't cry during my father/daughter dance, but I did during our first dance. Just try to think about something funny or a reward if you don't cry. That usually helps me not cry, or get over it faster than normal.

Crying is one thing. Sobbing uncontrollably is another. lol. As hysterical as I would get before the wedding though, I didn't even have the urge to cry then on that day. I guess I got it all out beforehand so maybe you did, too!

Just for that exact reason I picked a more upbeat, not so slow song, "Sugar Pie Honey Bunch" by the Four Tops. I won't get teary to that. But it is also our song, he raised me on it.
But you say your dad was thinking of it too, well, it's so meant to be then! And I agree with other pp, who the hell cares what everyone thinks! This is a big moment in your life and you're going to have these emotions. So let it out! Cause you might end up regretting it later if you changed the song.
And yeah, that is a really good song!

I love that song too! I would say use a song that is special to you. My dad passed away and I still remember and think about him every time I hear the country songs that we played at his memorial. I think picking a meaningful song and getting to share that moment with your dad should be treasured. And go ahead and cry-it's okay to make it a sentimental moment. Then everytime you hear that song you can think of that special dance you shared with your dad:)

    Brandy -I love that song!!

Sara - if you cry, totally fine!  Just give your dad an embroidered hankerchief as a momento and ask him to make sure he has it on him for you during the wedding.  :)
