Processional

Would it be weird if I played from this moment on by Shania Twain for the moms & maids to walk down the aisle to and then just have cannon in d for me to walk down to ? We meet with the priest at 7 tonight and I have to decide by then ahhh lol thanks !

Re: Processional

  • The reason I was thinking shania for moms & maids is because the whole song can play through almost but not sure if because of the words its ok :/ Im so lost Thanks ladies !
  • Definitely talk to the priest, a lot of times certain music (ie lyrics) aren't allowed in churches and it would suck to get your heart set on something that you can't have.

I went to university for music so please take what I'm about to say with a grain of salt and know that I'm kind of a music snob. I cannot stand it when people mismatch their music so badly, it's like nails on a chalkboard to me. The only thing I can equate it to would be like someone feeding you the most spicy thing you can think of and then giving you a tablespoon of water and then asking you if you feel better. It's just better to with more classic choices for a ceremony and play everything else at the reception. /rant.

  • My church has already ok'd me to have a dj and music with lyrics, I am a very active member. As long as there is no profanity or degrading of church/god its a go by them.

As for the music are you saying that its not ok to a play a instrumental and a love song back to back?

If it's instrumental it's not as bad, but I just can't stand pop music and classical music pushed back to back like that - it just clashes. But like I said, I'm a music snob so take what I say with a grain of salt.

  • I wouldent post if I dident want opinions :o) I would never do a classical it would most likley be a instrumental to a love song or something modern. I appreciate your opinions and dont see you as a music snob for them lol !
  • I have to agree with achiduck.  I feel like the music should be the same style for the entire ceremony, especially the processional.  It just sounds weird to me any other way.

Have you checked if Vitamin String Quartet has a version of the Shania song?  I think that would go well with Canon in D and you would still get the intrumental of the Shania song.

I have no music education, but I agree with achiduck.  I'm not a fan of mixing music genre's like that either.  Actually, I'm not a big fan of using pop music with words for wedding ceremonies in general.  I don't mind if it's an instrumental version though.  We're actually using the Jason Mraz song "I'm Yours" in a mashup with "Over the Rainbow" for our recessional, but my cousins are playing it on violin so it'll match the rest of the classical music in our ceremony.

That being said, it's your wedding and if you've always dreamed of using that song (in it's original version) than by all means use it.

EDIT:  Instrumental "I'm Your's" is for the recessional

  • Agreed with PP. I say do all instrumental or all pop, it's just flows better.

  • Agree with achiduck.  I also went to college for music, (I'm a cellist) and I do play some wedding ceremonies.  It's not so bad if everything's instrumental, but I would try to keep genres somewhat similar.  Are you having anyone play?  Or is everything pre-recorded?
