The following if copied from about.com:
Some guests will assume that their guests/dates/friends are of course invited, regardless of to whom you address the card. You can avoid these assumptions by writing “___ of ___ guest(s) will attend”, and then pre-filling in the second blank with the number of people that you are inviting. Some may find this slightly distasteful, but it certainly does get the point across!
Has anyone done this? Would anyone do this? What other ways did you word RSVP cards/numbers when inviting multiples within a family? Thank you.
Re: RSVP help please
We just put the names of the people invited and if someone RSVPs with extras we'll call and explain.

It's not that far off from the XX seats have been reserved for you.
[QUOTE]The only thing you risk doing that is if you invite a husband and wife and say the husband can't attend, are you okay with the wife substituting someone else? Because it looks like you've just held any 2 seats open for them. We just put the names of the people invited and if someone RSVPs with extras we'll call and explain.

Oh yea...Good point. So on the RSVP card did you put Mr. & Mrs. will/not attend (check one) or did you put the names separately with separate will/not attend indicators? I'm trying to make sense. Thank you.
[QUOTE]I prefer "X seats have been reserved in your honor" because I think the ___ of ____ is more likely to confuse people. Personally, I am doing individualized response cards with the names already written in.

I can see how ___of___ would be confusing. Are you doing individualized for individuals within a family? Thank you

Yes, there is a space for each person's name (which I will fill in), and for that person to select a meal choice or not attending.

I'm sorry, my response was confusing. I mean that on the actual invitation (inner envelope) we put the names of the people invited and the response card says "M________ will attend/will not attend" and then they have to initial their entree choices.
