Ugg, changing your name.

While I feel much more attached to my former last name than my middle name, I thought it'd be nostalgic to just keep all of them.  Huge pain in the butt!  So my former name was Sarah Elizabeth Marsh and my husband's last name is Desrocher.  So now when I log into the SS website, it just shows as Sarah E Desrocher.  And the lady at AAA didn't believe me when I said I had 2 middle names and insisted I had two last names.  So my new license will say Sarah E Marsh Desrocher.  My husband is thrilled - honestly, the sole purpose of getting married (I'm not kidding) was so that I'd have his last name.  Ugg.  What a pain.  Now I'm going to go back to the SS office and see if I can re-change my name just to Sarah Marsh Desrocher.

  • That is such a pain!!  So far changing my name hasn't been that big of a pain, but it's still a lot of work that I just don't feel like doing haha.  I've changed over the important stuff, but I still need to change over my credit cards since my license says my new name and my credit cards say "check ID" - and every store is turning down my CCs - not fun!!  I've had to use my debit card on every purchase!

  • thanks for mentioning this
because I wanted to add my maiden name as my middle name
and my mom started crying (my middle name is her name)

So i was going to make two middle names
    now I guess Ill reconsider

    My middle name is Ann
So I thought Jennifer Ann could be a first name. then my maiden name and married name

  • I went through this as well. My SS says Debra Wynne Berrett Legassie - I insist it's two middle names! But the RI driver's license won't put two middle names, so they put Debra W Legassie. My bank accounts say the same thing. But there are some things you can control... Like, we're buying a house, so the deed will have my full name. It really is a harrowing and painful experience... kinda like losing your identity but not that bad if that makes sense. Don't get me wrong, I wanted to take my husband's name, but, I felt like I would be losing a piece of me in the process if I dropped any of my maiden name.

  • Ugh I was thinking of doing the same thing. I don't want two last names so I was thinking it was going to be easy to do two middle names. I'm afraid if I get rid of my maiden name I'll lose a part of me like the PP, but I feel if I drop my middle name that my mom might be upset since she named me. Undecided
