Wedding Invitations & Paper

Just Do It Myself?

I'm questioning if I would want to make my own wedding invitations.
I always looked at "Wedding Paper Divas" to possibly do it, however when my sister got married last year, it was a disaster!
They were late with the "proof" invitations, meaning her wedding invitations went out in at the end of July, when she really wanted to send them in June. (she got married 9-10-11). The proof invite was fine. When the actual invitations came in, my sister was out of town for work, my mother, other sister, niece and I all assured her that we would take care of mailing them out for her.
When my mom opened the box of invitations, my sister's name was spelled incorrectly. her name was "Kourtney Krystina LeBlanc." and whoever did these invitations wrote "Courtney Christina LaBlanc." talk about UPSET!
they of course offered to fix it, but there was no time. my we ended up making invitations and calling close friends and family members.
I started looking at other companies and pricing them. Wedding Paper Divas fit the price, I just think back to my sister's wedding.

So, if I do decide to just make them, how should I go about it? I'm not crafty at all.. that's mom lol. and I now live in a different state from mom :(
ideas? thanks

I would highly suggest you remove those names if they are real... Which I'm guessing they are.

Anyways there are plenty of other sources to get invitations from if you don't want to to them yourself... One being etsy.  Or you could sort of do them yourself by getting the kits from the craft store and just printing them.  Or you could also design them and get them printed on Vista Print, Zazzle...etc.

  • lovethebeach 16-not everybody waits that late to send their invitations out. i'm sure because her invitations did go out later than what was planned, she had to either push her RSVP date back, or people had to make ridiculous travel arrangements.
I'm getting married this September. Some people need to mail them out earlier so that others can make travel arrangements. I will be mailing mine out in Mid-June and I need my responses by the end of August.

jhackett125-Check weddingwire.com They have great vendors on there and the other people who blog on there aren't as nasty. i rarely get on here! (I read your other post)

Cortez- what's with the font color and following around jhackett to defend her? I did my own invites. I ordered a digital template from etsy and then all pocketfolds supplies online. I printed everything myself along with cutting, glueing, and assembling. Also, OP, if I were you, I'd take your sisters full name out of your post. I'd be pissed if someone posted my full name on a public Internet forum.

  • ummmm... thanks cortez? and that's kinda creepy but ok. i have found a vendor for the invites (i think) .
  • I used wedding paper divas for my save the dates, and I had no problems.  Might have just been a fluke thing.  If you are really worried about it, then order your invites with plenty of time for them to fix problems if you have any.

I designed my own invites, but if you aren't particularly crafty I might think twice about it.  DIY doesn't necessarily equal cheaper.

As far as the guidelines, 6-8 weeks in advance to mail them is the accepted standard, but I mailed mine out a bit earlier than that and gasp! no one cared.

  • I would look into other sites BUT maybe they messed up with your sisters but won't mess up on yours? I would give them a try, start with maybe save the dates or engagement party? invites from them to see how it all goes. Then go from there.
