Just wondering if any other ladies here are self catering their wedding? I need to find supplies and service for 150 either to rent or buy for a very good price!
Also wondering if we were to find good looking plastic wine glasses for the reception, would it be too tacky? We just really have a small budget and dont think we will be able to buy or rent 300 wine glasses.
I would think about renting dishes. OR, do you already have a venue? My venue has plates and silverware but we aren't using them.. maybe your venue or future venue might have them.
Otherwise, I'd get a few quotes from some companies and send those quotes to eachother and see if they'll beat eachother. I ended up getting 25% off my rentals because they tried to beat other people. Just an idea.
Our venue only comes with punch bowls and coffee urns so we definitely need to find everything else! Great idea of making companies comptete! I'm going to the Tacoma Wedding Expo tomorrow so I think that will be the perfect time to try it!
I'm self-catering as well. I'm renting silverware, plates, and glasses. My mom and I have been stocking up on serving plates at Goodwill and Ross, etc.
We are using nice acrylic (thick plastic) champagne flutes, wine glasses, beer glasses and punch glasses for all drinks coming from the bar or punch station however at the tables glasses will be set. We are having a plated dinner so we figured as long as we have glass set on the table it doesn't really matter what comes from the bar.
We got nice acrylic champagne flutes and punch glasses for a great price at the buisness costco in fife.
We also got some really nice acrylic plates from the buisness costco for our appetizers.
I'm self catering as well. We aren't having a 'fancy' sit down dinner more of a BBQ/picnic type style. We are doing paper/plastic 'dishes' simply because we are too cheap to rent...and we just aren't fancy people! (Neither are any of our guests so it works!)
WeDoWeddingsSeattle.com rents equiptment / linens / service ware . etc out to self-caterers. We are actually using them as "wait-staff". Tammey is great!
As for silverware you can buy light/mid weight real silverware at Walmart for 25 cents a piece (sold in packs of 4 for $1). Costco in Fife also sells silverware by the dozen. Its $4 something a dozen (I can't remember the exact amount - it's close to $5 a dz). But it's a little heavier/better quality than Walmart.
Glassware - I didn't have much luck sourcing. I ended up buying 100 new water glasses off CL for $40. Then for the bar beverages we are going to use bio-degradable "plastic" ones my father can buy/get from his work. They come in sleeves of 250. We're doing 8oz for mixed bevs; 14 oz for keg. We are also doing 7 in bio-degradable "plastic" dessert plates.
Speaking of which, my friend owns a bar and sells/rents Kegs. (whatever the proper term is) So we are getitng our Keg there.
I've been collecting serving trays here and there off CL, antique stores, etc. There's a restaurant liquidation store by my house that I keep meaning to go into but I haven't made it yet. Once I do, if they have fantastic stuff, I'll post here to tell everyone.
There is a linen place in Renton by Ikea. They sell linens for super cheap- table cloths, napkins, etc.
Ditto PPs - also the Dollar Tree has an online site with inexpensive stuff. We'll be getting a few things from the local dollar store for our RD (i.e. serving utensils, etc). www.dollartree.com

tygirljojo - thanks for the dollartree referral. I had no clue you could go online & buy stuff. I see they have the 7 1/2" cylinder vases a case of 12 for $12! That is awesome! I was going to rent them from wedoweddingsseattle but that is much cheaper! Thanks!
I don't remember what the name of the linen place is. I know you can't find it by googling. (I tried) I will ask my friend again what it's called. They are only open M-F. I will be going there in the next few days / week. I will for sure get the info for you then!

Other than wine glasses- what are you specifically wondering about?
