Twobirds Convertible BM dress

Ever since I checked out the twobirds convertible BM dress, I fell in love with it. I just checked out the website and the short length dress is $270. Is that too much to ask a bridesmaid to spend on a BM dress? I want to keep the cost down as much as possible and I'm unsure if that's too expensive to ask everyone to pay. I've found some other dresses on here that I like for the girls but I'd like to keep my options open. Thougths??

Re: Twobirds Convertible BM dress

  • In my opinion that's far too much to spend on a BM dress. Ask your girls what their budget is be respectful of it.

Also, I've been to a couple weddings lately where the BMs were in those dresses and 3 girls almost had a "pop out" issue. Not pretty.

  • Yes it's too much. I agree with PP, you need to be respectful of your BM's and their budget. David's bridal has some really nice dresses that are very reasonable.

I've seen the two birds dress and although they are marked for weddings I just don't find them appropriate. Just my opinion.

  • I have a convertible dress and I love it. I'm not very busty, though, so I haven't had the problems mentioned above.

Anyway, I do think the twobirds price tag is pretty steep, but there are a couple other options. Dessy group makes a convertible dress (google dessy twist dress) and RaVon makes one, too. That's what I have. They go on sale on ideeli every few months for about $60. Keep an eye on their facebook page; they'll usually announce it before the sale.

[QUOTE]Ask each girl her budget and stick to the least amount you are told unless you are willing to make up the difference between the dress you want and the amount the girls are willing to pay. FWIW, I think the convertible dresses are hard to wear and not at all flattering on most people. I would realllllly hate it if I was asked to wear one as a BM.

Ditto this. One of my BMs came right out and asked me not to pick that dress.

  • I loved the Twobirds dresses, too (I saw them on TV) - but I feel like for what they are they are pretty expensive. Also, I feel like they would look good on thin girls, but they weren't flattering on my larger chested BMs or my plus sized mother.

As far as price goes, that depends on your BMs. I asked all of mine for a budget. Only 2 of them gave me a price ceiling, and that was $200. We ended up picking out beautiful, long, chiffon Amsale dresses that all the girls loved, and they were about $275 each. I just paid the difference for the girls who gave me smaller budgets.

I would suggest asking your BMs what they feel comfortable paying, and go from there.

  • Target carries convertible dresses.
  • Dessy has the Twist dress that is similar to the Two Birds dresses and runs closer to $120. They also offer a bandeau top to go with the dress to help keep the "girls" contained.

  • I have three of these dresses and my bridesmaids are wearing them. I got mine from Ravon by Von VOnni. (They have an Amazon shop now) They make tube tops to go under it if you are concerned with popping out. Von Vonnis are more affordable and the fabric is very forgiving(doesnt show lumps and bumps like some of the thinner materials that other manufacturers have) I love them.
  • All of my girls love the idea of the twobirds dress. I am giving them 18 months to save for the dress and they agree that it's plenty of time to save the money to get the dress if that's what I really want them to wear. I'm actually going to buy the dress this summer and have them all try it on before they all buy them to make sure that they all look good. Most of my girls have the same body type as I do or are skinnier and thinner so I think they will all look nice. They sell bandeaus that cover you up more and will certainly make me feel more comfortable with the girls showing less skin plus you can wear sleeves on the dress and may make the girls feel more comfortable. Plus if they get too warm during the reception and want to wear the dress a different way, she can change it up! Thanks for the advice :)!
