We LIVE our lives based on the "If you can't pay cash for it, you shouldn't buy it" rule. Our wedding won't be an exception. We haven't gotten to where we are now (bought our first home at 24 years old) if we didn't play it safe with money.
With enough leg work and lots of saving, we're putting on a really cool wedding for a decent budget ($10,000).

When we were house hunting, no one wanted to believe that we could (well, mainly DH) afford one at the time. DH bought the house at 21 :o) We try our best to live by that same rule (with the exception to our car, which the older one had to be done away with. It was a POS).
We put all wedding expenses possible on a credit card with 0% interest to keep track of spending...and had enough in savings to pay it off. Of course, then I quit my job so instead of paying the credit card off we thought it would be safer to have liquid savings accessible. So, we are technically in wedding debt, but have the money to pay it off if necessary. However, we totally planned on charging the honjeymoon costs without being able to pay them off immediately.
I have a credit card that i've had since college. I've used it on art supplies like paint and other small items, but that was because I left my debit card on the kitchen counter. I paid off those items immediately and it was less than 100 dollars.
I know its a no-no but I am taking out a loan. It wont be a large amt. I hate to do it but I've only got 64 days left and I know I cant pay for everything. In my defense I have had some unexpected expenses thrown at me in the last few months. I had car troubles and some wedding money was spent on repairs. Then I had more car trobles and ended up buying a new car. Its depressing but I have already scaled some things back. I'm not going to call off the wedding now.
