The bride and groom should expect to pay for all wedding-related expenses themselves, unless someone else specifically offers.
My husband and I bought our rings together, and paid for them out of a joint account. If you don't want to do this, then he should buy your ring and you should buy his ring.

You just got engaged, you're 18, and your wedding isn't for another year and a half. Slow your roll--you don't have to worry about these things right now.
We have a joint account and personal accounts, so we're paying for each others' rings out of our respective personal accounts then using our joint account for other wedding expenses (though I'm using some of my personal account to pay for the photographer, as I went over budget for her because I wanted to use her so badly, heh -- I'm making up the difference out of my account).
