June 2012 Weddings

how to sleep before upcoming wedding?

Hi all,

So my wedding is 4 days away and about a week ago I pretty much stopped sleeping. I get about 5 hours a night (on my good nights). Any suggestions? My sister suggested benadryl or however you spell it. It's to late to go get a perscription from the Dr. plus I don't really want to do that.
Happy sleeping to all the rest of the June brides!

Re: how to sleep before upcoming wedding?

  • Have you tried reading before bed? Do you talk about wedding things with FI or anyone righrt before bed? If you do, I suggest not taking about it after a certain time of day... that might help! I know it has helped me! Good luck!

  • Benadryl is OTC allergy medicine, so you don't need to go to the doctor for it...

  • I usually take Nyquil before bed.  It works well for my allergies and puts me to sleep like you wouldn't believe. Some people I work with like Simply Sleep.  My friend takes Tylenol PM.

Oh I know that benadryl is over the counter, but friends suggested I go to the doctor to get some kind of perscription. Just wondering what others are doing to help meds or no meds?
  • I read.
Honestly, I would take Simply Sleep. That is non addictive and non habit-forming and should help you sleep. You can also try melatonin, it's natural and OTC.

  • I take Melatonin when my brain is racing.   It's an all natural supplement found at any drug store.
  • I have warmed up chocolate milk in the microwave. Also, tea generally calms me down. Sometimes writing poetry or writing whatever I am feeling and storing in on my computer hard drive. I have also drank wine to help me sleep. I too have been restless and not had very much sleep since last week.
I am getting married on Saturday as well. I think things wiill get better from here.
  • I go the drugs route. I take NyQuil or Tylenol PM sometimes. I also have a prescription muscle relaxer for back problems, which I take as well (not at the same time as the NyQuil). I would say that a low dose of an OTC sleep aid might help, though I have found with things like Simply Sleep that I don't sleep more than 7 hours.
  • I usually read and if that's not working I get up and drink a glass of milk and continue to read.

I am also 4 days out .My sleeplessness had gone in stages. Around 1 month out I was a wreck getting 5 or less hours a night but now I've been sleeping better since some of the main stress points were resolved. I don't do the drugs mainly because I fall asleep okay and wake up at 2 or 3 unable to fall back asleep. If I take something that late I have a really hard time pulling myself out of the zombie zone. If you're having a hard falling asleep right away I would definitely try some of the OTC drugs that other ppl are suggesting.
  • Melatonin is a good route to go, I used to have severe anxiety and sleeping problems as a teenager (as in maybe 30 mins of sleep a night and zombie like all day). You can get melatonin in a normal store without a prescription, and it's natural and non addictive. It really worked for me.

  • Melatonin is great but unless you take a higher dose and have time to get extra sleep you likely won't see a significant effect in four days.

I'd just get an OTC sleeping pill and make sure you can get at least 7+ hours of sleep that night before you take it.

  • Thanks all! I have taken melatonin a few times and I took it a few nights back and it helped. So between that, reading, drinking milk (which I also love to do) and perhaps writing poetry looks like I am set. Thanks for all the advice!!!
