just got a friend's STD

for her wedding later this summer.  Complete with room block info.  "Discounted room rate" = $310!!!!  It's in AC on a Saturday night in the summer, so we're basically SOL for many other options.  DH and I will be peacing out after the cake or something.  I just couldn't imagine even sending that info to my guests.

    My DH cousin is getting married in Bryant Park in NYC in September and the hotel she booked the room block is the Ritz. Needless to say I will be perusing travelocity for some cheaper rooms.

    The room block is at one of the casinos, but the wedding itself is at some inn or catering place or something about 10 min outside of AC, so we'd have to drive ourselves over to the casinos after the wedding anyway. I feel like if you have a room block like this (or the Ritz!) you should offer a less expensive option too.

    And OMG I didn't even think about traffic!!

    Yea I agree, she should have 2 options. Traffic is nuts out there too. I am sure the wedding will be fun though!

    I think it's called Ram's Head Inn?  Something like that.  It's an "inn" but they only do events, no regular rooms?  If you have any recs that'd be awesome!

    Side note, I'm slightly panicking that she lurks on TK and will venture over here out of boredom and see this post, lol.

    Well Ram's Head is on the White Horse Pike (Rt 30) and there are a LOT of other cheaper hotels.  Some of them are a little less desirable though, so be careful where you book.

    If you're looking for something nicer, and less hotel, try Seaview (Galloway), Flagship (AC), Colonial Inn B&B (Smithville) or La Sammana (Brigantine).  I stayed at La Sammana for my bday a few years ago and its really nice.

    Other hotels are Quality Inn, Comfort Inn, etc.  There is a good chance that the hotels right on the White Horse Pike you may have a language barrier with.  So just be prepared when you call.

    Meredith- I had the same thing happen 2 years ago for a friends wedding in cape may.. It was on the 4th of July - the room rates were NUTS for cape may during 4th of july weekend.  We ended up going up to a friends room to sober up and then driving home later that night/early morning as much as it sucked.  Maybe if you have a friend who is going to reserve the room you could crash on their floor?

    Can you and another couple split the room. I'm sure you can get a room with 2 beds.

    We won't know anyone else at the wedding except for the bride and her parents, so we'll have to suck it up and just drive back.  Most of the people we know who live at the shore are either in Cape May or Belmar, and neither of those are really close to the area.  I'll talk to DH about those local hotel suggestions though -- thanks MH!

    and $310 is a group discounted rate?  Wow.  I booked rooms at the Ritz Carlton Center City for HALF that.

    Col stayed there for his bach party and I'm pretty sure that it must not be real gold there...

    Maybe there is a platinum casino? Or one where the slot machines are encrusted in diamonds?

    Our train of thought about hotels led me to think about Disney (since it's you, Heather) and how if Disney opened a hotel in AC that would be ridiculously amazing and I'd pay $300 to stay there.  I'm imagining mickey mouse dealing blackjack and laughing outloud.  Yes, this is how my brain works.  On second thought this fantasy hotel deserves to be in Vegas instead.  I may write to Disney about this idea... :)
