Mine are pretty trusting but had a reservation or two at first but that wore off quickly. As for his parents, they never said anything to either of us about it and certainly prefer it that way
We vacationed together before getting married too! We went to the Dominican Republic, Aruba, St. Marteen, Spain, Morocco, Mexico, San Francisco, and Napa. I think my parents knew about some of the trips but his parents didn't. It's funny that you asked this because I was just wondering if we should put up some of our past vacation pictures on our wedding website. I was wondering if that would look downed upon.. I'm guessing it would, huh?
We, um, live together. AND living together was his parents' idea! (I moved into their house last July, and due to the large amount of misunderstandings and miscommunications that happen in that household we all wound up moving out in September. So we've been living together for 11 months and in our own place for 10.)
Closest thing we've taken to a vacation together was 7 months after we started dating; we went to a weekend-long anime convention (have I mentioned he's a geek?) . We've taken a few day trips since then - up to my old college to get copies of the articles I wrote for that school's newspaper, a trip to Disney for Kidlet's 4th birthday, a trip to Tampa last June for a friend's birthday.
I was honestly surprised my parents reacted as they did. His parents didn't say a word. I know now that they wouldn't let their daughters but I think they realize their son is close to 30 and our relationship is very serious. I think my parents realized that because they were in the loop with everything, there really were no secrets. Also the fact that we're so far apart helps - the only time we've really had alone together is on vacation during our numerous visits. It'd be really unreasonable to say no, you can't have any time by yourselves...although I know it could very well have gone that way! My Dad knows his intentions were serious from the start - after all, when we started dating I was only supposed to be in London for one month and I stayed for 3 after my cousin (BF's best friend) talked to my parents and said he was a good guy. My parents have REALLY been open minded - I'm very fortunate now that I really think about it.
We were long distance for two years, so we visited each other, but I never mentioned it to my parents. Mine were much more of a problem than DH's. I just never told them if we traveled together, and since I traveled a lot anyway it didn't attract attention.
When we moved in together, MIL whined a bit, but then let it go. My parents were okay with it on the basis that it meant we would get married. When we didn't get married right away, I started getting a lot of pressure.
We didn't go to India until we got married because DH thought his parents would pretty much force us, and I didn't like that idea (I thought it should be my decision and my timeline).
His sister's Hindu wedding (registry wedding was in London) was in India and since we weren't engaged, I stayed behind. Although everybody wanted to meet me and knows about us, my parents were not okay with me attending. And I understand why - there's no dating culture in India, especially where he's from. I want them to meet me when I am truly part of the family and want them to have the right idea of me. So, that was one trip I could have taken, but, we did not.
We traveled together a few times in college but his parents didn't know (mine couldn't have cared less). Later on we took some weekend trips together that his parents did know about, but by that point we had been together for three or four years.
