Cost of liner with Japanese lanterns ??

Hi Everyone,

My fiance and I are planning a wedding in Charleston, SC for March 2014. The venue we chose requires us to have a frame tent and I absolutely hate seeing the frame. What I'm hoping for is to have a tent liner (white) and Japanese lanterns hanging throughout the tent. We recently received a quote from one of the rental companies and they estimated nearly $3500 for the liner, lanterns, and installation. NOTE, this is before the lanterns are even lit.. This seems a bit exorbidant to me. Has anyone done this in at their reception and if so, how much did it cost?

Thanks so much!
Stacy

Re: Cost of liner with Japanese lanterns ??

  • How big is the tent?  I was surprised to find the costs to rent a tent from the first company, but I got several quotes and found they were all similar.  If you think the quote sounds unreasonable, than get more quotes a compare!

My 40x60 tent, tables, chairs, and lights will cost about $2k, but I'm in Houston so I'm sure prices are completely different!

    Hi Robin,

Thanks so much for your input! Our tent is 40 x 70. The cost of the tent liner wasn't such a big deal as $1500 seemed to be the going rate. However, the lanterns were $500 (for 40-50 hung at different heights) and the labor fee was over $1,000! These seemed SOOO high since you can buy lanterns online for like $1 :-/ I inquired as to whether the vendor would allow me to purchase the lanterns and use mine to cut costs but of course they say no. Apparently they use a higher quality lantern and the others have a tendancy to tear.

I have thus far contacted two additional vendors. One was waay more expensive quoting 2500 for the lanterns alone (this price doesn't include the tent or anything, just lanterns). The other vendor hasn't provided the estimate yet.

    Thanks again for your input!
