When should we send out the STDs and invites for a DW?

STDS- We sent ours out 10 months in advance. As soon as you have a date and a place, you should send them out! I highly reccommend getting the free vistaprint postcards and starting a website to keep guests informed.

Invites- We sent ours out about 5 weeks before final payment was due for the cruise.

I'm hoping to get our STD's out about a year in advance (being that its a DW I think the earlier you are able to the better)...but I also think its a case by case decision too, in my case my family needs a lot of time to save for it (even though most know our plan and have already started saving).
The actual invitations I'll probably out 1-2 months before the response for booking rooms is due...so its kind of fresh, but still enough time for them to REALLY decide.

I just sent emails threw the knot for my save the dates, the website had all that information and I didn't have time to send them out. It's now 6 months to the wedding and I'm starting to make invitations. The hotel I'm staying at in mexico is nearly sold out so I thought I should get them out soon.

My STD's went out in 7 months in advance. Wanted them out sooner but oh well. Invites I'll probably send out middle of June, so a little less then 3 months.

I had exactly the same question.
I think I sent my save the date about 10-11 months before the wedding date, as soon as I put a deposit on the hotel.
Just sent my invitations out now, literally 2 hours ago, a little more than 6 months ahead of the date.
What has been happening is that since we sent the STD's everyone has been aware that at some point they will have to take time off of work and book this trip, so people have been asking us for info and details along the way. Right now we know almost exactly who is coming because many people have reserved at least the hotel.
If your already 6 months before your date it's still ok, I would do the like the other girls suggest and build a website where everyone can look up travel info and anything else you need them to know. You should probably get save the dates printed quickly and include your wedding website on it. Also just get the word out fast.
Our issue is that we are getting married on a major holiday weekend (Thanksgiving) so we wanted to make sure that everyone was informed so that they could get the best prices on airfare as well as the hotel. My family even thought I was crazy sending out STD's so early, except when one of the airlines released tickets for the wedding week and they sold out in 2 days, than everyone started rushing me to send the invites ASAP.
