My suggestion is to DIY as much as possible (not sure how crafty you are or how much time you have with 3 kids).  Google DIY suggestions or I think there are message boards on the knot for that too.  Just don't get carried away because sometimes DIY projects can end up being expensive.  Just keep everything simple.

Try to get quotes or realistic budget estimates for every part of the wedding before making any more purchase decisions, so you know how much room you have to work with.  Maybe also make a list of what's most important to you and your FI, so don't blow your budget on flowers when really you wanted a great photographer.

The Grand is cheap for the area but it's no backyard BBQ so I'm guessing you don't have a ton of room left in your budget.  But there are plenty of ways to save money.  For instance, I am thinking about going to bridal shops to try on dresses but then when I find one I like buying it on Ebay or something.

Most importantly, congrats and have fun planning!

I agree a bit with PP.

I know someone that got married there and her budget was $12,000.  She did ALOT of DIY.  And I think you make your list and look for deals on everything!

Figure out what is important to you both and what isn't...what you are willing to "skimp" on for lack of a better term and what you are not.

    Congrats and enjoy your planning!

Im not much of a crafty person but DIY is what i may have to do. I am more of a computer person and I will be creating my own invitations. I just made my STD's in word and transfered the doc to a picture format and having them printed on 4x6 photos on shutterfly. so far it only cost me $4.00 for shipping on my STD's. My main expenses left is the DJ, Photographer, dress and flowers.

Thanks PP and ssage, I will definitely be taking your advice.

I think you can do it although it may be more like $10k then $8k.
Your big expenses are the venue, the photgrapher and the DJ.  Those are also IMO the3 things you do not skimp on.  Pok Grand gives you an awesome package at a great price so you are set there.
Hire a good photographer, explain that you are on a budget and see what they can do for you.  I highly recommend Bedinotti photo in Newburgh. They are great people to work with and do tons of weddings at the Grand.  You should also be able to find a DJ within your budget  Definitely talk to all your vendors about your budget.  You'd be surprised how accommodating they can be.  We used Gary Whitakker from Strictly Entertainment DJs.  He was awesome.
Flowers are easy to keep low priced.  My centerpieces were $40 each and I could have gone cheaper if I wanted.  We used Lucille's Floral Design.
Place cards, menus, programs are all optional and can easily be DIY.

    Good Luck.

Oh and check around for a consignment wedding shop for the dress.  Also check David's Bridal's $99 sale and believe it or not Goodwill.  DB donates their samples to Goodwill.

Hi! Congrats on setting your date and finding your venue!

The girls on this board are fabulous!

But I'm just curious, since you have your date (Friday) set at the Grand, what does the $8,000 represent?

Is that AFTER you pay your venue, that you have $8,000 LEFT?

    OR

Is $8,000 the TOTAL amount you can afford for everything, including your venue?

Because since you already have the Grand booked for a set day, I'm assuming you have a package decided upon.

Calculate what your package per person costs at the Grand and multiply by the minimum you are required to have.

Then let us know how much you have to work with and we can offer some ideas.

(if your package is $75pp and you have a minimum of 100 people, you have already spent $7500 of your budget. Which leaves only $500 for everything if $8000 is the total amount you have to spend.)

Now if after you pay the Grand, you have $8000 left, or you have a different package which costs less, you would have more then the the amount I used as an example). Because $500 is not a lot for everything else.

Let us know how much you have to work with and we can help!

    GL!
