Beach Wedding ladies

One of my dad's employees got married on Virginia Beach last year, and this weekend my dad told her I was having a beach wedding. She proceeded to tell him every thing that went wrong at her wedding and told him I shouldn't bother to do those things because it will just be a disaster at my wedding too.

One of the things she mentioned is having chairs at the ceremony. She said that they set up the chairs and whenever people sat down, they fell over. I've never heard of this happening at a beach wedding, and 90% of beach weddings I've seen, had chairs set up. She said they wasted alot of money on renting chairs and we should just have everyone stand (I am not a fan of making people stand at the ceremony) because they ultimately had to make everyone stand since the chairs kept falling over.

So, ladies that have had a beach wedding, did you have chairs? Did they fall over?

I didn't have a beach wedding, but I was just at one last weekend, and there were absolutely no problems with the chairs.  Maybe it was the type of chair she used?  There are probably some chairs that are good for sand, and some that aren't.  I would ask the rental company or the venue if there is one chair they recommend over another.

That is so weird.  How does a chair fall over - sand or not? I'm imagining those white foldable ones.....

The only issues I can imagine are sand in shoes/sand blowing around and I'm sure the guests will be aware ahead of time.  I wouldn't worry at all!

I wouldn't stress over this at all.  It would be worse to not provide chairs at all than to have trouble with the chairs that are provided.

This is exactly how I was feeling. I've had such an arguement with my parents and FI over chairs because they don't see why it's needed for a short ceremony, but I just think it's so rude not to have chairs, regardless how short our ceremony is.

I'm with you on this - provide the chairs. It's just a common courtesy even if the ceremony is short. I've never been to a beach wedding, but lots of girls on the board have had them & I haven't heard a single one talking about their chairs falling down. I wouldn't worry about it, really. The things that usually go wrong on your wedding day are things you never even thought would have any trouble, at least for me.

But if you really are worried about it, can you rent benches instead? If you don't have to use the chairs later for the reception, this might be a good move.

Yeah we thought about benches, they are more expensive than the chairs though, unfortunately. We do need chairs for the reception, but we are renting separate chairs for that because our wedding ceremony and reception are at two separate locations.

Well, that sucks that you have to rent chairs twice, but I completely understand how getting chairs from the ceremony to the reception could be a big hassle unless the rental company is just nice & offers to move them over for you afterwards.

For the extra expense with the benches, I would worry about the chairs falling and just go with it. Wedding things are expensive enough as it is. Don't let one person's bad experience scare you away from your dream wedding. I'm sure you'll be just fine. :)

I am getting married on the beach and we are not having chairs set up.  We are renting a few benches for elderly and immediate family and that's it.  We debated what to do for a while since we are on a tight budget.  The deciding factor for us was going to a friends wedding which was on a beach. We all stood.  They had us all circle around them which was kinda cool.  It was a 10 minute ceremony, then we were all inside partying.  Leading up to the start of the ceremony, we were all walking around mingling anyway.  We that it was fine, and asking around, no one else seemed to mind it either.  So that made us feel better about our decision not to have chairs.

I had a beach wedding and we rented chairs. The chairs were $1.50 each and we had absolutely no problems. Our minister just mentioned before the wedding started for people to be careful, etc but we had no problems even with my elderly grandparents.

I can't begin to imagine why her chairs were falling over O_o

We're not having chairs, but our ceremony is also super short.  We're going to have some beach blankets spread out that people can chill on and will rent a bench or two for elderly guests.

What about just a few chairs??? Some people will prefer standing to sitting.
