Do not use Exceptional Entertainment (from Greensburg, PA) for DJ services

The DJ for our wedding was from Exceptional Entertainment (located in Greensburg, PA).  We selected a package that included two DJ's & wireless patio speakers.  We also requested a DJ that was "young, lively, upbeat, interactive".  Only one DJ was sent, though we paid for two.  And the wireless speakers were not on the patio, though we paid for them.  The DJ (Kevin) was the exact opposite of what we requested.  He also messed up everyone's names, though we went over them 5 times before the reception began, he didn't play songs that people requested & you couldn't even hear him speaking, though we paid more to have the Bose sound-system.  None of this was the DJ's fault, but the fault of the manager/owner, Jason Duncan.  I called Jason the week after we got back from our honeymoon.  He told me he'd call me back to discuss a refund.  Two weeks passed, so I called Jason again.  He agreed we should be refunded $250 - for the missing DJ ($100) & missing wireless speakers ($150).  He was supposed to call me back.  Four phone calls & three emails later, we still hadn't heard back from him.  We contacted the Attorney General's office, who has been unsuccessful, after six attempts (phone calls & letters) to get a hold of Jason Duncan.  We're not asking for a full refund, just a refund of what wasn't there on our wedding day.  And we know mistakes happen, but as a business man, Jason should want to fix this.  We paid $1,008 for our DJ services!  I strongly advise anyone looking for a DJ not to waste their time looking into Exceptional Entertainment.  If Jason Duncan has done this to us, I'm sure he's done it to others...or will do it to others in the future.  Stay away from Exceptional Entertainment!

Geesh. So, why didn't you meet with your DJ ahead of time, as that is normal procedure. That way you know who you are working with, you can go through everyone's names so they know how to say them, confirm what services are being provided on the day of the event, etc? Did you do this but they blew it all off?

Also, I'm not exactly certain that the Attorney General is who you would want to contact about this matter. That is probaly why they aren't calling you back. You're annoying them with matters that are none of their responsibility. The AG defends the State, not you, and doesn't care that some vendor hasn't paid you. If you want to hire an attorney, contact someone local and hire them. If you're looking to get some sort of a refund and they won't respond, then this might be the next step. Pull out the contract that was signed for the event and begin to make notes of when you called, who you spoke with, what was said, etc.

You can google the BBB, contact them and lodge a complaint.

I'm sorry to hear you didn't get what you paid for. A refund sounds reasonable in this case, so long as the contract you signed supports what you paid for. Good luck!

I was supposed to meet with the DJ & the owner, Jason Duncan, but they both had reasons that they could not meet with me.  I did contact the BBB.  Apparently, I'm not the only bride to have a problem with Exceptional Entertainment.  I've heard 3 cases where they never showed up... and those brides are suing the Exceptional Entertainment.  I honestly do not believe I will ever get a response from Jason Duncan & the BBB won't, either.  My only hope is that reading my post will stop a bride from hiring Exceptional Entertainment for their DJ.  Especially since they didn't even show up for other clients...or return their calls.  It's unacceptable & bad business.

Can you please e-mail pghknotties@gmail.com with the info you posted here? That way, we can add it to the "beware" list.
