Potluck picnic! Opinions?

I felt a light bulb go off in my head. Picnics and potlucks seem to go hand in hand together so why not a picnic potluck reception thingy in the park? :D 'Course we'd bring stuff too because I saw something online where you make your own customized paper lunch boxes and you fill it with your own menu slection, like this:  http://www.projectwedding.com/wedding-ideas/diy-weddings-the-purple-picnic

But then to supplement the menu, every guest brings something to else to eat in lieu of wedding presents. What do you guys think? :)

Also, for my fellow Torontonians, which park would you recommend? We were thinking High Park.

Re: Potluck picnic! Opinions?

  • i like potluck but not for a wedding. high park is perfect, especially if the cherry blossoms are out.
  • I'm sorry, but I would be pretty annoyed if I was asked to bring food to a wedding, no matter how casual it was going to be.

There are lots of ways to save money without essentially making your guests pay for their own dinner.

  • lol Fair enough. It was just idea, nothing set in stone. :)
  • Ditto achiduck - I want to come to your wedding to celebrate and would be peeved if I was asked to make/bring food.  Serve what you can afford - burgers and salad, lasagne and salad, or just cake and punch and beer.  It doesn't need to be fancy.
  • You have to consider food preparations if doing a buffet as you wouldn't want some to get food poisoning or allergies. Best to leave it to a venue or catering company.

  • You can always hire a BBQ caterer...they're cheaper to hire than the other types of menus.
  • Sunnyside Park looks nice. :) I was thinking of a BBQ caterer as a possibility. My family's used them at get-togethers and the food's always fantastic. My fiance's having some second thoughts and kinda just wants to have a sit-down dinner with our parents in a restaurant. But like I said before, nothing's set in stone, and of course I appreciate your input, ladies! :D
