Eye opening experience

FI told me an experience he had yesterday down at the little league baseball park. I'm sorry if this gets a little long, but I just have to share.

Now, a little background:
-FI and I have been together for 4 years on our wedding day.
-My son, who is 11, has not seen his biological father since he was 2.
-FI has been my son's father figure since we've been together but still calls him by name (and not Dad).

So, one of my son's coaches was at the park talking to another father about whatever game was going on. My son ended up playing for a different team for the night (his team wasn't playing) because they were short a player. When the other father asked his coach something about my son, he said, "Yeah, and his father is right there," pointing to FI.

This was the first time FI has heard someone call my son his son as well. Not really sure why it took this long, but it really clicked in his head that, "yeah, I'm his father," He told me he likes the sound of someone calling him my son's father.

I knew FI was always accepting of my son, but It was just nice to hear it.
Thanks for letting me tell my story.

    At this point, he's not going to. Who knows what time will bring though. Maybe in a few years.
       I'm still trying to find my son's biological father. I don't know where he is. If FI was to legally adopt him, I might have to find his father so he could surrender all rights. Right now, I"m still trying to get child support from that SOB!

    I know the exact feeling! It's amazing! My children have different fathers and FI is neither. However, we met when my youngest was 4 months (bio dad checked out when he found out I was pregnant) and he is now a year and a half and calls FI dada. My 4 year old has a father that is very active in his life, so I told Bryson it is his choice what he wants to call FI. Randy or dad or papa or whatever he wants to call him. I have a feeling he will call him dad too though, because he has a couple times already.

    It's a lot easier when they are younger to start calling someone else dad. My son was 7 when I started going out with FI so he already knew who his father was and that he's wasn't around.

    Who knows though. This may have just been the break-through of things to come.

    Well, even if he never calls him dad/FI never adopts him, it is so special the bond that they will have and that your son now has a positive father figure to guide him in his life!
