Help Needed - Wedding Gown Alteration Ideas - Re Post

So, I bought my dress!!!  BUT - the cleavage is too much.  I'm planning to lose 15-20lbs, so my bust will shrink some, but I still think I will need to get the dress "built up."

Has anyone else had to do this?

  • beautiful dress!
i didn't do any aterations on the bust, but are you getting more lift from the bra or the dress? if it's the dress, i'd get it let out before trying to build it up. if it's the bra, i would try a new one

  • Thanks!  It's the dress - I actually don't have on a bra in the photo.

Perhaps I should try a minimizer bra?  Because the back is so low, I'm not sure I can find one that will work.
  • I don't think a bra will work with that dress due to the cut of the back. I would see if your seamstress can build up the top, as you said, and add some fabric up there to cover. You are right, the cleavage is way too much, and I'm glad you realized that rather than trying to go with it ;)
  • are you comfortable without a bra? i always feel weird not wearing one in public, but i don't know another person who feels the same way i do :)

i'd wait until you're closer to the wedding(i see you still have quite some time) and then talk to a seamstress about it. it shoulsn't be too hard to take the bust out a little so you have more room.

i see you're in atlanta, where are you? i know a great seamstress in lawrenceville!

You're not the only one. I'll do it once in a blue moon and I feel incredibly self-conscious the entire time.
  • If you're uncomfortable you have a couple of different options. You can have cups added to the the top of the dress.  You can also have a modesty panel put in to cut down on the cleavage.

Just talk to your alterations person to see your options.
