wearing your wedding dress again!

I sooo want to wear my wedding dress again!

I love my dress and I don't want to sell it, but I don't want to box it up yet cuz I'm hoping an opportunity to wear it will arise somehow lol Here are some ideas:

1. Some grand ball or one of those bridal balls for some charity where girls wear their dress again.

2. Get together with some other newlyweds and have a photoshoot! Definitely not to trash the dress though.

3. Photoshoot with DH to get photos we couldn't/didn't do at the wedding. The photos from our wedding are either posed or candid... don't really have any that are artistic/avant-gard.

4. I've heard of girls altering  and/or dying their dress, but I wouldn't want to change it too much. As of now, I wouldn't want to cut it up for a Christening gown either (not that I'm expecting a child!). I'm a bit attached I think LOL  The dress could possibly be altered so the bottom tier zips off... no idea how much that would cost though... But still, I want to wear the WHOLE thing!!

Wow sorry, I ramble a lot when DH isn't home. It doesn't help that I'm watching Gone With The Wind right now and drooling over the big, beautiful dresses lol

Are you planning on doing (or have you done) any of these things? Or something else?

I had mine made into a Christmas tree skirt.  Of course, it took 8 years for me to get to the point where I was emotionally ready for that!

wow I've never heard of that! that's so cool!

Yeah I think there's still a bag of dance recital costumes somewhere, unless my mom secretly got rid of them when she moved, which is possible (I'm ok with it)... but I get attached to any significant clothing LOL as long as I don't become a hoarder.....

I'm not married yet, but mine is hanging up not too far from where I'm sitting and I'm tempted to try and put it on myself. I'm so ready to wear it again!

<div>I took it to a well respected local bridal seamstress.  I was too afraid to do it myself, even though I sew.  It's not like my other projects, you know?  So I called her and asked if she'd be interested and she was thrilled with the idea.  She charged me $60 and it's gorgeous.  I have pictures around here somewhere.</div>

I can't get over how beautiful your dress is!

I have a friend who just kept her dress hanging at her parents' house.  She had to take a particularly hard test in med school, then went to her parents' house and put on the dress to make herself feel better.

    I love your second idea!

Aw thanks Jenn! See what I mean? ;) Yeah mine is at my parents house cuz they have more space, and I was going to bring it to the bridal shop to get boxed and preserved or whatever but I don't want to yet! Lol I was thinking of seeing if there was any interest from my local board and married friends. I'd also love having more photos with DH. My cousin Is a fantastic photographer but he was in our BP

A friend of mine recently got pictures of her, her sister, and her mom all in their wedding dresses (along with their husbands in suits).  I think it was for some big anniversary for her parents.  They were really cool pictures :)

I have TWO dresses.  Yay for indecision!  Lol.  I will probably donate them both to charity after my wedding; if I can't find a way to just straight up sell them.  I used to be all sentimental and hang on to EVERYTHING, but as I grew up I started liking things more organized and uncluttered.  So I tend to get rid of things I'm not using and/or can't use again.

I've been wondering what to do with mine too. There are a couple dirt spots from getting into the limo and whatnot, so I need to clean that. Also, the one strap is breaking a little, so I might stitch it up. Then... I don't know! I LOVE the party in your wedding dress thing! Wonder if anyone I know would want to do it? I wish we had balls or galas around here. I know there are some, but I think they are very expensive and for important people haha. I wish we got dressed up all the time like they did long ago. I am such a girly girl and love dresses and would get dressed up everyday if I could. Let's all just get together somewhere in between where we all live and have our own ball! Haha

I need to finish cleaning the bottom of the dress where it dragged along the ground (it is about 2/3 clean).  Then I might donate it.  I'd like to sell it but I don't think it would sell.  It doesn't seem like too many people are looking for a pre-worn dresses.

I won't ever wear it again.  Frown

<div>I looked into some "pre-loved" dresses, but it would have been a bit of a hassel bc I would have either had to get one in Australia and ship it or take it on the plane, or somehow manage to find one when I got back to the States 3 months before the wedding! </div><div>
</div><div>I think a lot of brides have intentions of getting a pre-loved gown, and then find themselves wanting something in particular or falling in love with a store gown.</div>

My dress isn't white. It's gold (and cream lace) so I could wear it again and not look weird. (you know -- like a wedding dress at the work christmas party!)

What's funny about me wanting to get rid of my dress, is that we DO have balls and galas where I live!  I got engaged at a Mardi Gras ball, in fact.  But no one wears white to those things, unless you're in the court, and in that case you spent $10,000 on just the train.  The only picture I could find was unspectacular, usually the court dresses are extremely elaborate.  Kate MIddleton would blush, lol.

I would have to dye my dress and remove the train, and the cost of that would be the same as buying a new dress, lol.
