Referral for an APPRAISAL in the DC METRO AREA / ALX,VA

Hello there ladies!

I am looking for a certified gemologist appaiser. I don't know if that is the correct term, but I think you know what I am looking for. I want to get it appraised so that I can know for myself, number 1 and so I can get it insured.

Any suggestions? I am just so confused, I don't want to choose a chump that doesn't know what they are doing...or is not staying current...or is new to the field.

Also, how long does it take to get it appraised? Is it an all day thing? Will I have to leave it overnight? I know...ignorant, just plain old ignorant. But that is why I am looking to learn from my knottie sisters.

Thanks in advance!

I wish that I could help but I have no idea. I hope someone chimes in with some suggestions because this has been on my mind but I keep putting it on the back burner..

I got my appraisal done at Quest Jewelers in Fairfax. It was very thorough and she explains everything to you. She does charge $125 but I think it's worth it. She appraises it right in front of you so you don't have to leave it overnight. It took about 45 minutes to appraise my ring. I hope this helps! Also, if you need any jewelry Quest is absolutely the best place!

Go to Martin Fuller near Tysons.  His experience is more than 25 years and he even travels to UK and does appraisals for the Queen.  He is a bit pricey but I think he gives 50 dollars discount if you put the name of who referred you there.  He is really good and you will even show you the things he finds in your rock.  It will take about 1 hour or less.

    Thanks ladies!

I was going to use David Martin from GoldWorks in Old Town Alexandria. He charges $85 or less depending on how many pieces.

    I will see.

    Thanks again!
