What did you do to get your skin prepared for your big day?

Hey ladies,

I thought it would be nice to start a thread about some of the things you did to make sure you look your best for the big day. It can be anything from getting your hair done, face care, body care, nails etc. You name it.

So who wants to start?

1) I made sure I diligently kept up my skin care regimen--no skipping a night, sleeping in my makeup, etc. This meant wearing moisturizer with SPF during the day and cleansing and moisturizing at night.

2) I drank lots of water and tried to get good sleep.

3) I used an eye gel in the morning for dark circles and eye cream at night.

4) 2 months before the wedding I got a glycolic peel.

5) 2 weeks before the wedding I cut out salt, processed food and caffeine.

My skin looked the best it had ever looked! I also got a spray tan, and had professional airbrushed makeup.

I like this thread.

Overall, I usually have pretty decent skin. So, I'm not doing anything different with my skincare. I really want natural nails, so I'm trying really hard not to bite them.

Edit: Although it's not just about my skin, I am trying very hard to cut down on salt.

I'm just trying to be more consistent about washing my face with GOOD quality face care products every morning and every evening, and using an exfoliator once a week. Good lotion, and night cream on the weekends, and a special mask every two weeks (and probably more often as the wedding comes closer). My FI changed his face cleaner to Aveeno and his pores are becoming smaller and a BIT less red (although his rosacia won't go away).

What I'm using: Mary Kay Velocity cleaner and lotion, Clinique toner and moisturizing gel (switch lotion with mary kay stuff every couple of days), and a golden moisturizing mask (can't remember the brand right now).

Also, more consistent exercise has helped my pores to clear out the dirt more, too, kind of like people who get sauna treatments having clearer skin. Zumba is my favorite workout ever!!!

I should probably add on here since I started the thread..lol..

So here's what I have been doing so far.

1. I just stuck with the same face cleanser, moisturizer that I have been using for the last year or so. I added an eye cream to my evening regimen (I have a little bit of lines under my eye, though not sure if they are wrinkles or regular lines that your suppose to have). I got the Clarisonic Mia face brush back in February to save some money instead of going to get a facial (mind you nothing beats an actual facial). I just recently purchased a face mask which I plan to use once a week. I also got a body scrub to use once a week and have been moisturizing more often than I normally would do.

2. I have just been keeping up with my exercise and watching what I eat since I only have 91 days before the bigday. I am trying to drink more water.

3. I also tried out gel nails and shellac nails to see which would be better to do for the bigday. If my nails are in good shape closer to the wedding then I might just end up getting a regular manicure.

4. I've been trying to take care of my hair and limiting the amount of styling (ie. using curling iron) but if I do I put a heat protector.

@Stephie--- Can you recommend a particular eye gel? I've tried a few in the past but never been very satisfied with any of them! Would love to try a new one if you think it works well!

Well, leading up to the wedding, I used the one from Olay. Right now I am using Ole Henriksen Ultimate Lift Eye gel. I also love the one from Mary Kay. I keep it in the refrigerator and use it first thing in the morning.

I was at a spa in Arizona 2 weeks ago and had this as part of my facial and as SOON as I run out of eye gel, I am getting Eminence Organics Cucumber Eye gel. It smells wonderful and felt sooo good!

I'm not a real high maintenance gal, but here's what I've been doing:

1.) Fitness: The first 3 months after getting engaged I trained for and ran a half marathon. After that I've been going to the gym about 4 days a week doing some sort of cardio and light weight training. In recent weeks I've also been eating healithier food from the recipes at skinnytaste.com. I can definitely tell a difference.

2.) Skin: I use Burt's Bees facewash. I've found organic cleansers work best with my skin. I've also just started using Philosophy Oxygen Peel for the past several weeks and it has made an amazing difference in my skin tone and the small blemishes I occasionally get. Definitely HIGHLY RECOMMEND this product.

3.) Nails: Thanks to Groupon, I have somewhere to get a mani/pedi before the wedding. I'm just not really into fake nails or something that is going to require maintenance.

I am interested in finding a new eye gel, thanks for the recommendation @Stephie!

I'm being dillegnet about cleanser and moisterizer in the morning and the evening, but I'm getting little stress breakouts. Did this happen to anyone else, and what did you do to solve it?

I'm working,travelling a lot, getting my MBA and trying to plan a destination wedding, so needless to say it's been tragic for my face. I started breaking out quite a bit, which is definitely not normal for me. I feel like a 13 yr old boy going through puberty.

Esthetician: I started getting microdermabrasion a few months ago and I saw a lot of improvement. I just had a glycolic peel/ light chemical peel done last week and it's a HUGE improvement. I would recommend probably doing it twice, once a couple month beforehand and then one more a few weeks before. The peeling is a little bit scary. Groupon has been a godsend since I got a deal for 10 microderms for $400 and chemical peels for $60.

As for my skin regiment, I've used asprin mask and Mario Badescu's drying lotion to treat acne and it's been pretty effective. I wash my face with Philsophy purity which I recommend and use the Three little wonders by Ole Henriksen: the night gel with AHA is AWESOME and the vitamin C serum makes my face glow. For hyper pigmentation, I've been using Clinque's Even Better spot serum, which has lighten some sun spots. Also drink like 12 glasses of water or roobois or green tea a day :-) Now if only I could control my diet.

1) I started drinking a lot of extra water about two weeks before so I would be in the habbit of drinking and wouldn't forget in case I got stressed out.
2) I did my own nails and I made sure that they were clean, filed and had a strengthening coat on them at all times. My nails break super easy and I tend to pick at them after they break if the edge is rough.
3) I used extra moisturizing eye cream every night and continued with my normal facial routine.
4) I kept up with my exercise, this helps me get rid of stress so it didn't show my on my skin or else where
5) I stopped wearing sandals the week before the wedding so my feet wouldn't get dried out.
6) I started exfoliating my underarms with a facial scrub every few days.

Some of these might be over kill but it made me feel better thinking I wouldn't notice something on the big day that would bother me since I had all my bases covered.
