Getting in Shape

Very little time

I'm currently working two jobs and averaging 64 hrs a week to help out with wedding costs among other costs.  Unfortunately because of this I have lost time as well as motivation to work out.  I've been doing leg lifts, lounges and carying anything heavy and trying to do other things that I'm able to do during my work schedule and am looking for any other work out tips that I may be able to do while standing at my desk during my work week. I've definately started to eat healthier since my workout schedule has taken a hit.  Any suggestions?

Re: Very little time

  • Do you get a lunch break?  Walk during it (eat too, of course).  Do you watch any TV when you're home?  Do some quick cardio or strength stuff during the commercials.

And if you're looking to lose weight, 80% of weight loss is your eating habits.  You can lose weight without ever working out.

  • I hear you -- I was working 90-hour weeks for a couple months there. I still made time for me by going to the gym three times a week. If you don't make time for you, you will make yourself sick. Try to reframe your busy life and tell yourself that you will get it all done and still make time for you. You'll be tired, and maybe being tired will do for you what it did for me: Force me to nourish my body with foods that provided me more energy. Now I snack on no-sodium almonds and bananas and cheerios and I feel and sleep muuuuuch better. Good luck to you!

  • Making time for fitness when you're that busy is very difficult.  I work full-time, go to law school every night of the week, and study over 12 hours a day on the weekends.  And take care of a kid.  I'm basically just exhausted.  But 3 days a week I wake up at 4:15 and go to the gym and go on Saturday as well.  It's soooooo worth it.

If you can exercise at lunch, that's another good option.

I know how hard it is, but keep it up!

  • Like these ladies said,  you've got 168 hours in a week,  you can find 3-4 to exercise.

The fact that you are trying is awesome though, and you have to figure out what is most important to you.  If staying in shape and looking great is a priority,  then make it a priority.

What I would reccomend,  Go for runs, and alternate between jogging and a fast run.

You'll burn much more calories in less time.

Also  nutrition is a huge part of weight loss, but dieting alone will not get you there, maintaining lean mass, ie. muscle, will keep your metabolism up, and burning calories.

Try standing instead of sitting throughout the day,  you'll burn an extra 200-300 calories per day.  That adds up over a few weeks.

Eat smart,  find the time and push it,  you can do this!

    All the best
