Worth the $$$?

Hi ladies-
I am trying to decide if it is worth hiring Mandy for my hair.  I know everyone on here recommends and raves about her, but to be honest her prices seem quite high.  In addition to having my hair done, she wants to charge extra just to clip in my own hair extensions (both the day of and trial), plus there's extra money if I do the prep.  Because I am getting ready/married down the shore, she is also increasing her travel fee to $90 (instead of the usual $75).  On top of that, I'd really like to pay for my 4 BMs hair as a thank you.  The price just seems to be getting a little out of control.  From the ladies who have used Mandy, do you feel it is really worth putting out all that money just on hair?  Regardless of her reputation, it just seems like way too much.

I wanted to use her because she gets rave reviews from everyone, but decided to go with someone else because her prices really are so staggering and, after looking at pictures, I realized that wedding hair is wedding hair unless you're getting something totally unique and different done.  I'm still using someone who's pricier than a regular old salon, but that's mainly because I had a really hard time finding a salon that was open on a Sunday and/or that wouldn't charge an arm and a leg to travel to my location.

This. I agree 100%, except for the part about Sunday. :-). And she wasn't the warmest person when we spoke on the phone.

I LOVE Mandy's work.  She is worth every penny in my opinion.  I loved my trial with her and she nailed the look I was going for.  In the big scheme of things how much are you really going to save if you get someone else??  I would see how much you would exactly save and see if it's worth it enough to you to pull out the extra money.  To me it was a no brainer....I was thrilled with her!

When I first read this I was like "How were you able to find salons that are open on Sunday?!" and then I realized that you're getting married on a Friday, haha!

I'm having the same problem with finding a hair person!  Not only am I getting married on a Sunday, but it's also Labor Day Sunday, so everyone either wants to charge me a travel or special "holiday" fee.  I have a consultation this week with a salon down closer to where I'm getting married.  Even she wants to charge me $50 travel because of the "holiday traffic".  In cases like that, do I take that into account when it comes to tipping?

I agree that wedding hair is wedding hair unless you are doing something crazy and out of the ordinary.  My usual hair guy who cuts my hair is doing all of our wedding hair and he just works at a chain hair cutting place, not some fancy salon, and he is not a specific wedding-hair person.  He's great at styling hair, so what's the difference?  My trial was amazing -- he didn't charge me for the trial, my bridesmaids are paying $25-35 each and I am only paying $50 for my hair.  I have full faith that my hair will be just as gorgeous as if I paid the insane prices that wedding-hair people charge.  Just go with your gut -- spending more money does not necessarily equal more beautiful hair-dos!

Then your answering your own question.  To me it was worth it....I am getting extensions through her so she isn't charging me to clip them on.  She was in my budget and well worth it to me.  I couldn't be happier with the way my hair came out.  I am very picky and she did a fantastic job.

$75 as a regular travel fee seems excessive to me!

I booked her...honestly, a few hundred dollars is worth me being happy with my hair...it's one day that I am willing to go above and beyond..

I'm one of those girls who feels like my hair 'makes or breaks' me. I had Mandy for my hair, and couldn't be happier. Seriously, my hair kicked some major hair a$$! LOL. Granted since my wedding was almost 2 years ago, the prices were a little lower, but I would have paid more if I had to. I also paid for all of my bridesmaids to get their hair done, probably because she was on the expensive side. I didn't want them to miss out if they couldn't budget it in.
It's your wedding. If you love the way she does your hair, book her.

INo one can tell you what is important to you. It depends on if you feel having amazing hair is worth it. I personally do.
I think that there is so many horrible stylists out there and that Mandy's is worth every penny.
Her work was on the cover of bridal hair magazine. Inside the magazine her work was featured, every style was beautiful.

I agree with the first part, but I wholly disagree with the second part.

Every single person on this board has things related to their wedding that they were willing to splurge on and that they weren't willing to splurge on.  For some it's photography, for others it's the venue, for others it's hair, etc.

However, to insinuate that by not spending a large amount of money on a hair stylist her hair won't be amazing is just plain silly.  Is Mandy's work better than the work of some stylists who are cheaper than her?  Of course.  Is her work better than everyone who charges less than her?  It'd be silly to assume so.
